I'm not sure where to post this, but I wanted to share our most recent ecperience with Avis.
Our flight was delayed by three hours so we landed at MCO at 2:30 am. We had booked an economy car since this was a last minute budget trip! The Avis guy offered us an upgrade for an extra $11/day. We said no thank you since it would double the cost of our rental car price. He rolled his eyes at us and kept saying whatever, that's fine, sacrifice comfort for money. We said no thank you again. He then asked it if was the three of us travelling. I said it was. He said we were "too big" to fit in the size car we reserved. He kepts rolling his eyes at us and wondering aloud "how we would ever fit in that size car." He processed our rental and before handing us the keys announced that he knew there was no way we'd fit in the size care we had reserved so he was nice enough (his words!) to upgrade us. We said thanks took the keys and left. I assumed he had given us the upgrade because there weren't any ecomony cras to be had.
We found the car which was a mitsubishi eclipse. Nice little car. Unitl we tried to get in. My boyfriend who is six feet tall could not sit up straight in the back seat. Out of curioisity we drove through the Avis lanes. There were tons of Chevy Aveos (their economy car) and all were four door cars bigger than the eclipse.
At this point I was very upset that he had given us this car instead of the one we reserved. We called their 800 number and were told to go to the nearest avis in the morning and they would fix it for us. (I was not dealing with him again!) Luckily the hotel we were staying at before checking into SSR had an Avis counter in the lobby. The guy was wonderful and kept apologizing for the man the night before and gave us a Pontiac G6. Higher than we reserved, but it was all he had he said.
At first I chalked it up to it being 3am and the man was probably not excited to be there at that time. Then I realized that the aiport counters are open 24 hours so that was probably his sceduled shift. Anyway. we're contacting Avis to let them know how horrible the first guy was and how great the second guy was!
