Hi. Were doing a 4 day cruise and then staying in Orlando an additional four days after the cruise. I'm trying to decide if I should keep the rental for all eight days and park at the Port or return it to Avis and take shuttle to Port and pick-up car at Avis after the cruise. Price actually isn't much difference. (additional $60 for parking) To me I'm just thinking its more convenient to park at the Port.
Is taking the shuttle for Avis very time consuming and a hassle or not?
Also, Is parking at the Port safe? I wouldn't want to be worrying about the car while on cruise. Any Thoughts? Keep car or return it?

We got one way rentals (used Hertz) for our cruise. You save the cost of the rental car for four days and the parking at the port (I thought is was $12 a day ??).

The shuttle from the Hertz site was quick, the driver helped with the luggage, and we were dropped off right where the Disney porters stand.

We have rented from Avis from PC after a cruise.

They do have a shuttle from their office on A1A to the port. There shuttle service is one of the best rental cars company in the area.

The Avis code for that location is P3F.

Why pay for 4 days when the car is not is use. The shuttle pick up is in front of the cruise terminal. The money you could be saving could go towards a t-shirt or toys for your kids.

There is a great thread on cruise critic. Under East Coast departures,a seperate thread call Flordia Departures. In that thread is called "I work in Port Canaveral". Very good on everything you need to know before pulling out of PC.

"Don't forget to visit the Ron-Jon surf shop In Cocoa Beach."

If you arriving the evening before you might consider renting your car at MCO and driving to Port Canaveral and staying at the Raddison (I think--You can check and make sure). They have a park and sail program where you stay the night before and your car remains with them in a fenced lot until you return. They have shuttles that take you to the port and return you to the hotel to retrieve your car when you return. We did this when we cruised out of Port Canaveral and it was great. It was far cheaper to rent car in Orlando, drive, stay overnight and drive back to Orlando for a couple extra days than it was to pay for 4 people to take the shuttles from MCO to Port Canaveral.
Hope this helps,
Kathleen

we have cruised three times out of port canaveral and have used budget and avis (mco to port canaveral and back). both have free shuttles to the port. They also are very frequent. We did have two problems both with avis. After the cruise we went to avis to pick up our rental. had the confirmation in my hand. both times they didn't have a car for us. I will definitely rent avis at mco and drop at port but will never use avis for after a cruise. Hertz is also there but they don't have free shuttles to port.

For me I would rather drop of rental and then pick up another rental after the cruise.

Buzz2400, Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought of them not having a car available. I think I'm going to keep the car and park at the port. It may cost me $60 to park, but at least I know I'll have at car when we get back.

Just to let you know, the last time we did this, they sent us over to hertz. took a little longer to get the car but the guy at hertz was so so nice to us. He knew I was real upset. So they will try and find you another car. I have never, ever had trouble with budget which is down the street from avis.

Buzz2400, How did you get from Avis to Hertz? Are they close to each other? I would rather use Budget but their price is $150 more. I wonder if they price match other companies.
I should have thought about the Radisson Stay and Sail earlier. Right now they are booked.

The last time we took a cruise out of Port Canaveral, my dh dropped us all off at the port, returned the rental car and took the shuttle back. It was very easy and didn't take that long at all.

I would definitely do that as opposed to keeping the rental car throughout the cruise portion of your vacation.
