Hi! I need some advice and encouragement. I have never run a half marathon and my first one will be the Avengers Half! Yikes!! :tiptoe: I have been training and I do a run/walk ratio. As the marathon is only a couple of weeks away now I am nervous. I am worried I won't be able to complete it. I am trying to be positive but I am just nervous because I have done an event like this!! Any tips on what to bring or wear so no chaffing occurs or anything else would be great!!!!! I think it will be lots of fun I am just anxious!!! :snooty::snooty::snooty:

You've got this! Sounds like your training has been strong, and the run/walk strategy will help you complete the race without feeling completely exhausted or overwhelmed (I use the Galloway method too). What has your longest training run been so far? You'll find you can run farther and faster on race day because of the sheer excitement and adrenaline. Too, if you're ahead of the 16 minute mile pace requirement, you can take short breaks in the parks for pictures, which helps break up the first few miles of the race.

As far as avoiding chafing, Body Glide is your friend. Don't be nervous-- you've trained for this and you're going to have a great time!

Honestly if you have been training you will be just fine. I only started running in March and will be doing the Star Wars Challenge so I understand your concern. As for chaffing I wear compression shorts or leggings and find it works just fine.

Training isn't just running. It's finding what works for you. That means what clothing works for your body, what amount of water works, what kind of electrolyte supplement works.

For chafing I use bodyglide anywhere there might be skin against skin. With Disney runs luckily they have stations to help if you forgot or notice a hot spot. For Wine and Dine Hlf last year it rained and rained. My shorts were perhaps too tight and the running belt I wore was not good. It all combined to pull my shorts higher than normal. Thankfully there was an aid station with Vaseline so I slathered that on the thighs higher than I'd put the bodyglide. Whew. Saved.

If you haven't been including those things in your training, start NOW. What works for me might not work for you. The Vaseline plus rain felt hideous. But Ive been horribly chafed in that area before (a walking 15k 15 years ago when I thought cotton shorts were fabulous) and I know that that feels worse, and for longer, than the slimy Vaseline. I know that I can't tolerate Gu or other gels. So I pass them by. You might have a different stomach than I do. Etc.
