Ok, am I the only one that just doesn't get this? Disney's blog announced "as part of the largest expansion in the history of" AK they were going ahead with avatarland.

I remember when it was originally announced and while there were some who were excited, the vast majority of the posts on all the various Disney fan boards was really a collective "What?". A couple of years have passed and I think that same vast majority was hoping, believing that Disney had come to their senses and it was just going to fade away.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie. Liked. Not loved, not obsessed over...but frankly, it's a movie that sits on my shelf, but I can't even recall the last time I even considered watching it, let alone actually did watch.

Now, I will say I'm looking forward to hearing more about the rest of the expansion that is planned for AK....but Avatarland.....wow, just not seeing how this really fits into AK. Though the Banshee rides sounds like it has potential.....but an entire land?

Is it just me? Are others excited about this? And if so, can you tell me why....I'm not being sarcastic, honest, I'm trying to understand what an entire land based on a lackluster movie will bring to Disney. I want to start to understand what I missed about this movie that made it so great.....because obviously it's about to become a big deal at Disney and I love Disney. So, help me understand?

Not excited at all I don't know what is going on with Disney and who is making the decisions. Friends just came back from disneyland and they loved cars land I would rather have seen that happen.

I think James Cameron has more Avatar movies in the works, which will make it more current as the years progress... and though you may not have loved the movie, it was one of the highest grossing of all time, so apparently there are people out there that did love it.
I think I feel the same as you about the movie, but I did find the movie imagery beautiful, and if Disney does it right, this land and attractions could be amazing.
Hey...AK after dark and an evening show has my vote already!

Never saw the movie but I think the plans in the blog and the drawings look like something I would enjoy. People keep mentioning Carsland but it appears Disney is interested in expanding Animal Kingdom and Carsland isn't a fit there. I am all for nighttime activities at Animal Kingdom so I say good for Disney for developing this.

I saw the same blog entry this morning and kind of thought, "Huh?" I remember hearing about this before but had hoped Disney had reconsidered. I have absolutely no desire to see or excitement about an upcoming Avatarland. I didn't care for the movie and think there are a ton of better things Disney could do. I'd love to see more new rides and less new character meet and greet areas.

Totally agree. The movie doesn't matter. Geez, I wonder how many people actually saw Song of the South. I don't care about the movie, but am excited about this expansion.

People who really liked Avatar and who really like Disney are probably going to love it. I'm one of them. I can't wait. I agree that I don't get the correlation between Avatar and Disney but I don't care.

I'm pretty ambivalent about it. I liked the movie well enough, and I'm not opposed to AK getting more to do, even if I think other things might make a bit more sense.

This nails it. The movie is irrelevant. Weather you have seen the movie or not or even liked it or not, this will be a visual gem. Put all you thoughts about the movie aside and just imagine being transported to Pandora. If this is done right, you will forget about all of this and be in awe.

I myself am indifferent to the movie, but if the final product looks like the artist renderings how can anyone look at that and not like it?

I wasn't a huge fan of the movie but it did look beautiful and there are a lot of scenes in the movie that fit right into a theme park. I think the imagineers will do a great job with it and I am looking forward to seeing what they can do.

I am excited and looking forward to it. Any new expansion is good and welcomed. Plus don't think it will be very crowded with all the haters who don't want it and will stay away. Lol

There are definitely more Avatar movies planned for the future. And while I'm not the biggest Avatar fan; the first film was very well done and I'm excited to see how they will bring Pandora to life.

I think it's going to be great. Between Disney and Cameron you can bet there will be some very creative ideas. :thumbsup2

Couldn't care less about the movie, but I agree that if they build some great attractions, the movie won't matter.

Regarding AK, I would rather have seen a South America section with an attraction themed to "Up." But I will certainly check out whatever new additions they come up with.

THE highest of all time. Second is another Cameron movie, Titanic.

For those of you who don't know, Avatar 2 comes out in the next two years or so. BIG money for that movie and Disney.

Remember people, it's all comes down to money.

I think it's good that Disney snapped this up before Universal Studios did.

I think it will be spectacular and am excited! I think the themes of the movie will mesh extremely well with the underlying message of Animal Kingdom and will be an incredible addition to the park and to WDW as a whole.

Honestly, I didn't love the movie (I liked the message, but don't watch many movies, period, and rarely watch any movie multiple times) but I don't think that matters as the land will stand independently of the movie for the majority of guests in my opinion. And while I, too, would love to see Carsland in DHS, I don't think the two are mutually exclusive in the long run and, if WDW announced a plan to replicate Carsland in Orlando, they'd get dinged for "not being original" so they really can't win.
