Avatarland Worst idea ever?

This again?

I don't think it's the worst idea ever. I'm not thrilled about it for many of the reasons already mentioned.

Avatar Land, I think, would be about as timeless as the Pearl Harbor segment over at Studio Backlot Tour. I don't mean to insult Avatar fans (cause I enjoyed the movie!) I just don't see the film as anything other than a technological/special effects marvel. Where after the AL expansion is finally here what made that movie what it is will probably be a common place in films with a budget shortly after.

Though I guess we'll have to see what the Avatar franchise has in store. :thumbsup2

I love Avatar. Great story even so old as world, so is Cinderella btw, so what.
I love beauty of Pandora and if they recreate it, it will be amazing. Anyway, whoever does not like it that much will be able to skip it just like most of us skip Stitch, problem solved.

I hated the movie. It's depressing as you know what. And violent. It does have a good message and beautifully presented, but so not a fan.

None of the examples of bad ideas given (Stitch's Escape, etc) even compare, scale wise, to the bad idea of Avatarland.

I feel like they could have come up with something better than Avatar land. Like maybe something that has to do with, oh i don't know, animals! like the Australian outback. or something better than aliens in ANIMAL KINGDOM!! But i think Carsland is going to be very cool. MGM needs something new. But I am upset with Avatar land....it doesn't really make sense for Disney.

I agree. Aliens in AK does not make sense. Neither does a "Star Wars Land" in AK like so many have suggested. AK definitely needs something more, but not either of those.

To heck with Avatarland

Build the Forest Moon of Endor.

Add the Mos Eisley Cantina

Jabba's Palace

Or better still. . .

Build Beastly Kingdomme

Yes building this in AK is also weird to me, I guess there is not enough diversity on planet earth to warrant another land.....must go with imaginary aliens...

So a project that no one has seen or knows anything about, other than a few supposed B/W drawings on the internet, is being written off and labled as the worst WDW idea ever. Sort of like watching your team losing their first game and wanting the coach fired, GM fired, players traded, etc.

This. (Interesting Disname, by the way)

I'm not over the moon about the idea of an Avatar themed land, but I think it is completely premature to write it off as the worst idea ever when we have absolutely nothing to base this on. I believe I'll have to wait until they actually release some information on their plans before stomping all over it.

Really bad ideas in the past: Castle Cake takes the cake. Runners up: Stitch, Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey, Narnia Experience, Return of Captain Ew, Reimagined Journey into Imagination, and let's not forget the Tiki House Under New Management.

It's not the worst idea ever. Not by a long shot. I don't however think it's a particularly good idea either. I'm probably just biased though, because I'm in the minority that just did not like the movie at all. I'd much rather they went with their original idea and do a dragon themed section in AK.

I don't think that Avatar was the worst retelling of the "colonist goes native" story. Certainly not in the same way that Ice Pirates was the worst retelling of The Seven Samurai. But I don't think that "Avatarland" is so much about the movie or the story, as it is about Pandora -- the world. At least, I hope not. If I can walk/ride through the forests of Pandora, at night, I'll be tickled.

I LOVE Ice Pirates.

I think its a lame idea..I saw the movie exactly ONCE and that was one too many times for me..perhaps they should focus on doing something with Star Wars...

It's not closing forever, they're building another theater for it.

I do think Avatarland is an awful idea because the story of Avatar is not original. It's Pocahontas with blue aliens.

Absolutely agree! Pocahontas with smurfs. And, the sequels will be lame too. It is not something to build a theme park around. Now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, they should scrap Avatarland and focus on Star Wars land. Each area could be themed after a planet, with specific rides. And, a Star Wars hotel at Disney? Complete with the Tattooine Cantina? Do you know how many families would pay big bucks to stay there? Wake up, Disney.

What makes me sad about this is that there are SO many DISNEY films / characters that are barely represented in the parks... So why go get something else? There are characters we already love but I can't name a single character from Avatar. Wall-E, Nightmare Before Xmas, Jungle Book, The Rescuers, 101 Dalmatians, Brother Bear.... I could go on.

Why not give me Disney at Disney??!
