Avatarland at Ak?

Ugh...not too crazy about that at all. I thought the movie was WAY overhyped and not that great, imo.

yeah I just read that too guess its something to look forward to - you know its going to be AMAZING!!

Don't like it.

I was glad Disney didn't get the rights to Harry Potter and I'm disappointed they're going in this direction. I would much prefer a new section that isn't based on an already existing successful movie/franchise. I'm sure it will be cool, but I much prefer the style of HM and POTC where the success of the ride came first.

I totally agree. I thought the movie was WAY overrated. And I think this is a huge risk, what if the next to movies are horrible?

I don't like Avatar, but it is nice to see AK getting some love. I just wish it was mythical creatures or something like that. I am sure my family will love the new addition though, they all liked Avatar.

I'm not a big fan of Avatar, thought it was just OK. I can't say I'm real thrilled with the idea of some kind of AvatarLand. It seems like the theme may go better with DHS than AK.

Who knows, I guess we'll wait and see.

I made this comment on the other thread, but it bears repeating...

This sounds like a bad bus-driver rumor.

Universal gets Harry Potter, and Disney gets JC's bloated ego and a mediocre movie on which to build a whole land?? I am stymied.

Wow.. i'm intrigued! I really liked 'Avatar'.. the story was a bit meh but the graphics/visuals (whatever they call it :rolleyes1) were stunning! Definitely a welcome addition - lets just hope Cameron & WDI do it justice.

:tink:

Eh, Avatar was basically just Pocahontas in outer-space... but it’s nice that AK will have more added to it. I wish they were reviving the Beastly Kingdom idea instead, but FI will be happy. He loves Avatar.

My thought exactly.

Movie = watchable, surprisingly more so than I expected, but hardly great cinema or all that captivating.

AvatarLand = seems like it would go better at DHS. Granted, the theme of Ferngully, err... Pocahontas, err... Avatar does fit reasonably well with the whole conservation concept of AK, if it's going to be anything more than basically one attraction themed around conservation, it just isn't going to work well.

Of course, with the DinoLand part of the park being what it is, I guess they don't really have much issue with incongruity at Animal Kingdom. If they retheme rooms at AKL (especially Kidani) to Avatar, I'll be getting quite angry.

Remember, this movie is Cameron's baby. He has been working on this for years. It was also one of the highest grossing movies of all time.

There is NO way things will be skimped on this "land." So, like or hate the movie, I think the addition will be something that will make people "oooh and ahhh" and put a spark into visiting the AK.

I agree. Visually, Avatar was stunning...and if this is planned after we get the two sequels (and I think one is supposed to take place underwater?), it could be a pretty wild addition to the park, even if you're not a big fan of the movie.

Pretty surprised to hear this news. I'm still waiting for any news on a much-needed DHS update, but I'll be curious to see how this turns out. My dad will definitely enjoy it - he loves Avatar!

I was not expecting anything like this. I'm not a fan of the movie but you have to admit, whatever they do, it will be beautiful. Avatar is just a very visually pleasing movie to watch, whether you like the storyline or not... I think Disney made a good move here. Can't wait to hear more!
