Very long time reader, first time poster, FX was showing Avatar tonight. As part of the show extras Jon landau in part of the interview talked about the Avatar Disney World project, specifically that the mountains for the new attraction will be 143 ft tall the boat attraction will involve riding a "canoe" and that guests will be able to "ride" a Banshee. He also indicated that while Orlando would be the first Avatar experience, other locations were in the future.

Thanks for the info! Exciting! I'll have to look for this on YouTube, hopefully someone will post it. Avatar was popular worldwide, so it makes since to place it at other Disney parks in the future.

Hopefully you used one of those newer can openers for this which allow the lid to be replaced. (and allow for the cut-safe edges)

I can't wait for the park addition. It's going to have the most innovative technology we have seen in a long time. I also have a feeling that the magic bands will play a large roll in some of these attractions.

Does any one know where they are at in the development of this project? Is it still in the planning stage or have they actually broke ground and started working on it? Will this be coming to Animal Kingdom for sure and if so is there a projected completion date?

Work has been started in the area where Camp Minnie Mickey was. The old FOTLK theater has been removed and they have been doing other land clearing and preparation. A construction support yard has also been setup behind Rainforest. It is supposed to be complete in 2017.
