Awesome movie! Granted I had to tune out the subtle like a freight train political messages, but I really loved it. I think it was as visually breathtaking as Lord of the Rings. The imagery was amazing. It's one of my all time favorite movies. Loved it!:goodvibes

I haven't seen it, but DS19 saw it with DH on Friday. DS HATED it (not exactly sure why) but DH liked it. :confused3

I know we can't discuss politics on the boards, but can you PM me the messages in the movie? I caught some mother earth religous stuff. (DUH right? LOL) I was on strong sinus meds and was really sleepy when we saw it so i missed some of the subtle (and apparently not so subtle...LOL) referances. (And I REFUSE to ask any family members what it was. Talk about a can of worms....LMBO!)

DS17 saw it and said it was really good too.

DS 18 loved it, but his girlfriend hated it. She's not a sci-fi movie lover though.

Dh and I watched Saturday in 3D. I'm not really a Sci-Fi person, but I thought it was a good movie.

ps....the 3D was AMAZING!!! I actually felt a little dizzy during one of the scenes wheret hey were flying and you could see outside through a huge window...and I DON'T EVER get motion sickness! (Could have been the meds though...LOL!)

Thx for review, glad to see most of the teens liked it :thumbsup2. DH is taking our teen grandson's out to lunch and movie tomorrow. So I hope they enjoy. :goodvibes

We just came back from seeing the 3-D version of it a couple of hours ago. It was awesome. James Cameron created a whole world and alien culture that was entirely believable. Absolutely amazing!!!

As to the messages, here's a brief synopsis of the plot. Humans have basically destroyed our own planet. Now, we have found a resource on the alien planet of Pandora that we want. Unfortunately, the aliens are living right on top of this precious resource. You can draw similarities to the current Iraq situation, where many believe we are there for oil. You can draw parallels to the American Indian, who we slaughtered for their land. The movie shows how horrifying these actions can be. It definitely sends an environmental message about taking care of our land and natural resources. I thought the messages were placed nicely in the film and helped to enhance the story. I personally enjoy movies like this, rather than mindless "Transformers type movies".

We just got back from seeing it in 3D and we were all pleasantly surprised. Both DH and I remarked that we enjoyed it much more than we thought we would. Our boys got a little queasy from it and both came out with headaches, but they both say they loved it.

I don't have any interest in seeing this movie, but happy you had a fun time. :)

:thumbsup2 I like stories that are trying to get a message across, especially when its a good message.

About the queasy-ness. Did you see it in 3D or just regular? I get motion sickness easily but wanted to see this one. I may just wait until the dvd comes out though if it makes people feel sick.

I didn't think I would either seeing promos for it. I was stuck seeing it after they took the 3d theatre from christmas carol that I wanted to see. ( yea stuck, I really planned on a movie that day,, I don't see many movies in a year)

but I was mesmorized.
it was stunningly beautiful!
you HAVE to see it in 3d

( just ignore the violence..)

DD wanted to see this movie instead of The Frog Princess:sad1:. I must say I was heartbroken at first that my Disney loving DD would choose this over a new Disney princess. I think it was the 3D that drew her in and some of the kids in school were abuzz about Avatar before Xmas break. Anyways, we both loved the movie. Besides the story, it was so beautiful to look at. If you were a fan of "Dances With Wolves", you will like this movie. The story really reminded me of it.

That's so sad isn't it? DD has no interest in seeing the newest Princess movie. She told me she would watch it with me when it came out on DVD. My little Princess is growing up too fast.:sad1:

That's not the problem people I know are having with it. . . Trying to think of how to say it, without setting off a fire storm. . .hmm. . .the problems American Indians have with Pocahantas are the same problems people are having with Avatar.

That said, I loved the special effects :-).
