Never seen Avatar, probably never will so an Avatar area would not mean a great deal to me.
At least with HP I know the story, background etc. Avatar I wouldn't know where to begin, not a clue what its about, only thing that comes to mind to me is a blue alien flying(no idea if thats even acurate)

Avatar is 100% happening -like it or lump it - confirmation made yesterday Mar 13 by big Disney Boss - report as below

"At today's Walt Disney Company shareholders meeting in Kansas, Disney CEO Bob Iger reaffirmed that AVATAR land will be coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom, and should open in 2015 despite rumours that the project was struggling"

I guess its because one of the films main themes is nature and the destruction/protection of it. Lost of opportunity to explore the animals and plant life that was on display in the film.

But I do see your point, but it seems they are quite 'loose' in how they theme areas nowadays. I mean what's monsters inc got to do with tommorowland or Soarin got to do with 'The Land'.

So it may have something also to do wuth the need to drive more traffic to Animal Kingdom, and the fact it has more space/capacity than Hollywood Studios.

you've seen Dinotopia ? Then you've got the basics.
Foreigner comes to a foreign world, eventually gains recognition by taming a fierce bird, and ultimately fights off the bad guys.

The symbol for AK is the tree of life. It's a celebration of life in its diverse and unique forms. Avatar really fits in there.
It's not an animal film, but it's pretty much about nature and how, we, humans, are just animals among other animals and in communion with Nature.
Let's not forget we are animals, like any living being, and like na'vi or any creature roaming the worlds that may exist throughout the universe, wether they be imaginary or real

DHS is about the icons of the movie industry. I could see Avatar in DHS if the "land" was about filming techniques.

I don't watch TV(odd game of rugby or football) and only a couple of films a year.
