Sorry not up to reading the recent 13 page post about everyone's thoughts if Avatarland is appropriate for Disney. I'm just looking for updates. Is it still scheduled to open, if so when, what is going to be there?

Been to Disney for many time in the past few years, and am ready for something new (new rides, shows, etc.). Hoping this will be the answer.

Disney has been pretty mum about it, but it seems to still be in work. It sounds as if it is still a couple years away at least, and meaningful details are impossible to find.

No. I haven't even seen the movie and there going to make a whole "land" about it. No. Pick a different topic. Any other topic. Please!

Just thinking about Avatar leaves me blue.

Insiders have indicated that Avatar is moving forward. The Festival of the Lion King is getting a new theater in Africa which is actively being build. Once that is completed -- possibly later 2013 -- then construction will begin on the current Camp Mickey-Minnie plot for Avatar. The current plans seem to be for one "E-ticket" ride and one "C-ticket" ride as well as a restaurant and merchandise. The restaurant is going to be set up like Be Our Guest and be a quick serve during the day and table service for dinner.

It will likely be done in the 2016-17 timeframe.

There might also be a night time show built as part of the development, something like World of Color with a new body of water and a dedicated theater (like Fantasmic! has at DHS). It will apparently not be themed to Avatar exclusively.

Here's hoping that a new land will have more rides than just two!! Heck, the FantasyLand expansion will have three new rides when Mine Train opens.

I so agree. A new "land" should have several rides. Not just two. Like you said, the "expansion" has three new rides. There should be at minimum like 5 or 6 "attractions". Whether they be rides or experiences, like Belle, etc.

I think there's going to be a lot of hype about this, and I will get all excited because I love Avatar and Disney. The thought of them combining to create an experience at AK puts me over the moon. But I think I'm going to be disappointed in the end.

Yes, by all means, let's definitely set ourselves up to be disappointed with a new themed space at DAK a full three years before it will open and before anything has been officially released. :rotfl2:

Any details that get posted at this point are rumors at best. Anyone who actually KNOWS what the land will include has undoubtedly signed some sort of privacy agreement and can't say anything.

:earsboy:

:rotfl: But I thought everyone here lived for speculation and rumors and getting disappointed before the fact.

Supposedly, it is still in the works. I heard the problem they are facing is James Cameron's work schedule.

I am so disappointed in the decision to do anything in relation to Avatar. Aren't there better movies that they could focus on for a new land? It feels so boring and outdated to me already. I'm sure there are many people who like Avatar, but I've never met any of them. I'm hoping that the project stalls and they come up with something better in the meantime.

That being said, I suppose I'll attempt to be positive about it and hope that Disney creates something amazing that helps me change my mind about it.

I saw Avatar when it first came out, and thought it was just okay. Didn't really feel like watching it again when the DVD came out. And personally I never met anyone either who loved Avatar, although I am sure they are out there somewhere.

I can only hope that if this is what WDW decides to do, they do it magnificently- which being WDW I think they can.

Although really, the thought of an Avatarland does make me kind of sad. It just seems so not exciting or Disney enough. Just not up to WDW standards as far as I am concerned. Outdated and blah.

Moving to community board so folks can continue to discuss Avatar, since this is speculative in relation to theme park planning :)

I *REALLY* like this idea. But how would this work seeing that AK isn't open during the evening for most of the year?
