Anyone excited? I haven't seen Avatar, have no plans to see Avatar, and am not into that whole LOTR, AVATAR adventure, sci fi, mythological scene. However. I think it is going to be incredible. The rides will be top notch and the land itself will be beyond detailed...In my opinion. Cameron is a freak and will be worse to deal with than JK and Potter. Which works out great for ride enthusiasts. I am sure I will watch the movie before everything opens, but just to familiarize myself. I have a feeling this will be huge. Hopefully someone can write a story for the next two as I hear the first was terribly written but visually stunning.

I'm very excited! This is great news! It's going to lengthen the visit time to AK for most (I can usually spend a full day there as it is). And I think you're correct, Cameron is going to be pretty picky on this one but my guess is so will Disney. Anything new land that Disney builds is going to be automatically compared to WWOHP so they will have to do a great job.

Of course, there's always the possibility that Cameron will be so hard to deal with that there will be a split based on "creative differences" but even then, Disney will have to do something with the development so either way, we win :thumbsup2

It is exciting and has some great opportunity. Riding a banshee using something similar to the FJ technology (or better) is very exciting, but I can't see it being much more than a single ride. It will be hard to make an "immersive experience" when the place will be crawling with humans instead of Na'vi. How do you portray an unspoiled alien world in the middle of a packed theme park? It is missing a lot of the human elements that make WWOHP so good. Rowling had all the details in HP, not so much for Cameron. What are the food and drink to be served? What are the marketing opportunities (what souveniers will we bring home?)

I was a bit surprised that Disney would team up with Fox instead of going to its own stable. Narnia has a lot of potential as a world attached to AK with its message of harmony between humans and animals. Or perhaps POTC could rise above a single ride now that it has a movie dynasty? With Disney owned properties, they don't need to worry about contract disputes. Cameron already has an association with Uni (Terminator), so he will be well represented on both sides of the fence now.

Also, does anyone know when projected opening is? The article I read said coming in 2013 at the beginning, but later said groundbreaking would be in 2013. I can't see them building an entire land in a single year?

The forecast is an opening in appr. 5 years.

By the way, the price tag is $500-million!

I may be the only person who isn't excited at all and thinks of better places to spend the money. Maybe I'm just a grinch.

Check the main thread in attractions and strategies...not only are you not alone, you aren't even a minority. Some people are screaming sellout, while others seem to be upset that a pinko commie anti-capitalist anti-American anti-human movie is getting the Disney treatment. Funny, it says DISboards...not sure how it became Fox News.

Not sure how it will fit into AK? It was an interesting choice. I loved the movie Avatar, but would have probably preferred Narnia. But maybe Disney felt it would be too similar to Harry Potter.

I had no desire to see Avatar at the movies, but once I rented it at home I regretted not seeing it on the big screen.

I think the new Avatar land will be incredible. There are a lot of important messages in the movie - about taking care of the earth, the circle of life, differences in people, etc. I think it's a really good fit for AK.

I think Disney "tested the water" with Narnia and although the attraction was on a minor scale....it was a colossal flop.
You also have to look at the worldwide appeal of the movies.
The original Narnia grossed $745 Million and Avatar $2.78 Billion.
I thnk its going to be a tremedous success (everything James Cameron touches is golden).
