Ok so I was looking up to see what I could find about Avatar and I came across this little piece of information on Screamscape. This information is pretty old(a month old actually) but I thought it was worth sharing. So here you go:

" I’m not sure how true this one, but we’ve heard it said that the boat ride going into Pandora: The World of Avatar may be somewhat similar in feel to Pirates of the Caribbean. The fantasy ride through the bio-luminescent world of Pandora may include encounters with animatronic creatures, very cool lighting and projection effects and perhaps a small drop or two along the way to keep things exciting."

Like I said it is nothing major, but it was something I thought was worth sharing.

They need a high interest high capacity ride that everyone can enjoy. This sounds perfect to me. Although the ride itself won't be innovative, the effects and theming could be quite good. Plus, water rides are cool in the the hot summer!

What I am wondering is if the ride will be completely indoors. I wonder if they will do a portion of outdoor segments followed by indoor ones. Personally I would rather in be all indoors so I can enjoy the A/C lol! :p

What? I thought the entire pandora experience was going to be air conditioned - 75 degrees year round! :)

It's been rumored for a months now that avatar would be getting some type of boat ride through the bioluminescent forest and actually one of the concept art pictures shows this. Also it has been confirmed that there will be a flying banshee ride through the floating mountains of pandora. That is rumored to be similar to soarin as an attraction.

I know I just wanted to show this little tidbit of info I found.

So we're getting a re-themed Pirates ride and a re-themed Soarin'.

Exciting... :rolleyes2

I actually like the sound of this, I hope the rumor becomes reality :goodvibes.

well I definitely think they will be similar but I don't think by any means James Cameron will let disney just re theme something they already have. Especially the flying banshee ride because it would be more individual instead of have twenty people in each hang glider. Riding on a banshee would be more of a maybe four people type thing. I'm actually very excited to see what they do with avatar. They have great potential here, he's it wasn't a great story line for a movie but as for theming and creating rides off of it its a gold mine.

Unless it is a re themed splash mountain instead of pirates-- splash is one of the best rides in the whole place. I wouldn't mind a similar ride tech with the new surroundings.

I wouldn't mind that either as long as there is some new technology involved.

ohh come on now. first of all i bet with the surrounding environment the rides will feel completely different. Also, if you're going to use attraction ideas from other rides, Pirates and Soarin' are pretty good sources.

Could be a re-themed star tours instead. Does that help?rotfl

Or they could build the new land around Kali river rapids and just re theme that-- I couldn't imagine any theme park doing something like that.....

Have to wait and see...

But if its a boat ride and Disney's 955th take on a "simulator" like soarin'

That sounds weak.

If that be the case...then all hubbub is basically a new fantasyland...low tech stuff just to hold more park capacity...
Which honestly coulda been done 15 years ago when they obviously needed it.

I would expect it to be closer to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey than Soarin' as there would be more movement involved to replicate the Banshee.

Although the boat ride I think would be Small World or Pirates of the Caribbean style, the main focus will be the sets not the ride tech.
