I think it was in the Guide to Cognitive Disablities where I saw mention about the loud toilet flushing? Anyway, wanted to mention what has worked for us for years. Putting a sticky post it note over the sensor. Keeps surprise flushing from happening. Every now and then there is a stray flush, but it works great for the most part.

After using Post it Notes for many years, we found something that works better for us - painter's tape.
It is masking tape that has a medium amount of stickiness.
It stays in place well, but removes easily and cleanly.

We found it to be especially helpful where Post It notes don't work well, in places where the area is curved or doesn't have enough flat area for a note to stick.
