Availabilty in December?

Does anyone know if anything is still available in December? Has anyone recently booked reservations? Does getting on the waitlist tie up my points or can I reserve anyother ressie later, cancelling it later if the waitlist comes through?

Lastly, if I reserve a ressie say for a 1BR for 5 days and a studio for the weekend, can I cancel the weekend part later without giving up my 5 days or do I have to make the ressie serpate in order to do so?

People have been getting ressies for December via waitlists, there's a thread on the DVC community board, "Post your waitlist here." Your points aren't tied up until the waitlist comes through.

I'm pretty sure that DVC isn't all booked up for December. Certain resorts may be full for certain times, but I'll bet you can still get something for most nights.

We've been able to subtract a day from a ressie with no bad consequence provided it was done before 30 days out. If part of the ressie is in a 1 bedroom and part is in a studio, you already have 2 different ressie numbers, just cancel one of them.

Last Monday I was able to get a OKW 2BR for 7 days starting 12-8. MS could not give me 7 days starting either the 6th or 7th.

If you're looking for Christmas week, I'd have to think you'll be on a waitlist.

I made a reservation for a 1-bedroom at VWL for December 17 to 23 last week. They also reported rooms available (studios on up) at SSR; I didn't ask about the other resorts for those dates.

Depends on when and where but the availability are scarce everywhere so I'd suggest you calling MS ASAP. When you waitlist, no points are tied up. If there are openings for your dates but not at your choice location, you can reserve what you can and waitlist based on your preference. When the waitlist clears, you can instruct MS to cancel one and keep one or keep both or whatever your heart desires.

Yes, you can add or drop dates to your existing reservation

I just called Thursday and added a night to a one-bedroom ressie in early December, but was not able to add a night to my two-bedroom -- on a wait list for that. Both are at OKW.

Like others have recommended, I'd call ASAP.

Just be careful if you have to borrow. With a waitlist, you will be given the option of automatically grabbing the ressie or notification. If you select automatic, and they borrow to fill the ressie, you will not be able to put those points back if your plans change. So, if you are borrowing, have them notify you rather than using the automatic option.

Yeah, we were successful in booking our 1st trip home for 5 days beginning December 4 at SSR. We may even save our points and extend our vacation by booking Friday and Satruday , Dec 2 & 3, in a Disney moderate resort.



Can anyone suggest places to visit to see the best of the best Christmas Decorations?

Next decision; to AP or not to AP. We are planning a second trip for 6 days in a studio during the first week of March so we can thaw out after an upstate NY winter.

If all goes well we will be using the Magical Express using a non particpating airline, relying on Disney's bus system, using wegoshop for grocery delivery, transferring from a moderate resort to SSR and possibly picking up a rental on Disney property for a day or may be two all in our first visit. I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't a bit nervous.

Can anyone suggest places to visit to see the best of the best Christmas Decorations?

The "must-do's" I have heard of include: Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at MK, the Osborne Family Lights at MGM, and Candelight Processional at Epcot. All of the hotels and DVC resorts will obviously have their own decorations, and there is a DVC Christmas Tree exchange thread over on the DVC Community Board.

For that number of days, I would think the DVC-discounted AP or AP Plus would be far better than regular tickets with no discount. In addition, the AP opens up the opportunity for getting the DDE card, which will save you money on food and beverage.

There's nothing to worry about. All you have to do is keep one thought uppermost in your mind: "Don't screw this up!"

Good for you! We went for our first December visit in '02, and we've been back for sometime every year since, not such a long tradition, but we had no idea!!

DTD has local singing group entertainment in the evenings, and we enjoyed a night there listening to the Christmas music.

The Grand Floridian I think is the best of the decorated resorts, but all of them have something. (Well, we missed it if the CR had anything special.) You've already heard about the WL! The boardwalk resorts, including Swan and Dolphin are decorated. POR has a nice tree. OKW has lots of balconies decorated by guests.

You have to see MGM's Osborne lights, fantastic! Epcot, has so many lights and the special lighted tunnel and tree, and storytellers in each land, besides the Candlelight Processional. Don't forget to try to see a Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and their parade. I think even AK has a Jingle Jammin Parade, never went.

You have lots to look forward to, and people will tell you more, I'm sure.

We are also going to be in Disney in December. Out of the bazillion times we've been to WDW we've never been there in December. I'm (literally) counting the days. I've learned more about "December must see and do" from the DIS boards than any other site.
