I have made a last minute decision to try for a beginning of May trip for the Flower Show. Never been to WDW at that time. Anyone checked on availability recently? 5 - 7 days, studio or 1 bedrm at any of the WDW DVC resorts? Why do I always seem to make my decisions when MS is closed? :confused3 Anyone who can help this impatient procrastinator?
(Edited 2/14/05) Got my exact dates, 1 bedroom at OKW May 1 - 7! If anyone else is considering being there for the launch of the Greatest Celebration on Earth, go for it! Pixiedust works!

I added on a night(may27)to my upcoming trip and there was availibility for points and cash at VWL.--added on wed or thurs--last week

I added a member cash night at OKW for May 7th last week, 1 bedroom.

Hi, Debbie,
Did you do a cash night because no points nights were available? What is the member cash rate for a 1 bedroom on that date? I would LOVE to get a 1 bedroom at OKW for that first week of May.

No, because I wanted to stretch my points. I am already borrowed into 2006 with my December BWV reservation. It is 20 points per night for Sunday through Thursday (May 8 to 13), I booked that last October. I wanted to arrive on Saturday, I didn't want to pay 48 points (I only have 250), plus I didn't want to change hotels by staying elsewhere. The member rate is $296 plus tax. That comes to $330 total. Divided by 48 = about $6.88 per point, better than renting. I don't want to commit to buying extra points, I think if you figure the initial cost of points plus dues, it's close to break even by throwing in a cash night for a weekend date.

I think you have a good chance of getting OKW for the beginning of May, it's usually a quiet time there (this is our 6th year for early May). I don't know about the first week because of the opening of the 50th anniversary.

I just made a ressie for mid-May on Friday...a studio at SSR. There were also studios available at OKW. Don't know about 1BR, as I only asked for a studio to stretch my points.

Debbie,
Thanks for the great info. Weekends can seem L-O-N-G when you are waiting to check with MS! I have been hesitant about going in early May because I am worried about heat and humidity. I'm hoping it won't get over 85° and not too humid. It was really uncomfortable when DH and I went at the end of June last year and we said we wouldn't do that again.

MaryJ,
I could live with a studio if I can get all my days! Thanks!
Jean

Last year was really nice, mid 80's. But I have to warn you that other years it was low 90's. Not as humid as summer, so you didn't have the afternoon thunderstorms, very little rain in my experience.

Uh, oh. That is NOT great news. I will have to hope for the best, I guess. If there is no availability for the days I need, then I will just assume that it would have been too hot for me to enjoy anyway! My heart will be pounding when I call MS tomorrow.

At New Years I scored a match thru II for a week in a 1BR at OKW, for a winter week in RI, of all things. We naturally jumped at it, and since we were planning to send my Aunt (who is developmentally disabled, 64 yrs old with Down sydrome and going strong!) and a healthcare worker down in early May, so we got to increase the length of stay and get a bigger unit, and save points! Yay!

I hae found the weather then to be great, but maybe we were just lucky. Back in Maine, May is after Mud Season but in the thick of Black Fly season, so my Auntie and her helper will be pleased at the more agreeable 80 degrees and sunny. We of course will need to be putting in our vegetable garden then, and in the thick of the school year, so not an option for us (and not for jekjones1558 in prior years either, eh?;)).

pumpkinboy,
What a great story! One of the best things about DVC units is being able to treat family and friends, don't you think? Your generosity makes me happy, so I can only imagine what it does for your aunt.

So right, pumpkinboy. I feel totally blessed that I am able to use my DVC points anytime at all now. I intend to do just that, even though I am now constantly broke from airfare, rental cars, etc. A friend who retired just before me buried her husband last week. He was also a retired teacher and learned only 7 months ago that he had cancer. I have vowed NEVER to forget that any trip I take or share with others could be our last. In fact, this May trip (if it happens) will be with a fellow teacher retiree who is a breast cancer survivor. Make memories, treasure time together at every opportunity.

I got a cash night because a studio was 29 points(friday night)with cash discount 243 plus tax. I had 13 points and I made a promise that I would not borrow from any future years. So I decided to go with the cash to add on to my point stay.(at VWL)and I banked my 13 points.

:wizard: pixie dust for you tommorrow :wizard:

WooHoo, Jean!!!!

This must be a sign that the weather is going to be "just perfect" as well!!!

Congratulations!!!

Jean, we'll be at BWV from 4/30 through 5/7! I didn't even know about the Happiest Celebration plans, so we had a surprise when I started reading about it.

We've been there early in May and it was beautiful weather. We had no rain and it never was above 80ish...So there is hope!
