We are going to Souther CA the week before Christmas and decided to plan a last minute trip to DL. We really want to stay at the GC since I loved the resort when we stayed there almost 2 years ago, but the problem is that the DL website only shows availability for the 1st 2 nights (December 17-19). I looked at Expedia and they have availability for every night we'd be there (17-24), but I don't understand why DL wouldn't want to sell the rooms themselves if they really are available. I've only booked a hotel through Expedia once for a Hyatt in Phoenix and though we had a room when we arrived, we had booked a concierge room and were told we could only get a standard room at that price. After much arguing and showing them our Expedia confirmation, they gave us a key to the concierge lounge, but we still had the standard room. I really wouldn't want something like this to happen once we're at the GC, but Expedia doesn't let you choose views, etc. so how do I know what kind of a room I'm getting? I'm thinking of booking the 1st 2 nights through DL and then getting the last 5 from Expedia and try to link the 2 reservations so that we can stay in the same room. Has anyone booked through Expedia before? Does anyone know why they have availibility and DL doesn't?

I have used Expedia for hotels and flights many, many times and I like them a lot. I have had one problem where the hotel didn't have my Expedia reservation and the hotel took care of it quickly and nicely. Hotels often sell blocks of rooms to other companies (Expedia, Orbits, Travelocity) so the rooms do not show as available on their own computers. I have heard of people linking 2 room reservations before but have also heard that they make you check out of one room and into another. Assume that the Expedia price is for a standard view which will look out over the front of the resort to the Paradise Peir and Disneyland hotels. There are also standard view rooms that look into the monorail courtyard which is where I requested and we received.

If I were you I would call Disney Travel myself . In the past they have helped me alot. The number is 1(714)520-5050.

I also would gave Disney travel direct. We were thinking of adding on a room at PPH for 12/15 - 12/19 and website said sold out but when I called, Disney travel still had a few rooms.

I have also booked Expedia and didn't have problems. However, I believe daannzz is right - if you have two different reservations, you might have to change rooms.

Good luck.

My wife and I used Expedia to book our WEDDING NIGHT hotel room. When she called to confirm the hotel, they didn't have our reservation and refused to give us the price Expedia promised. So after she spent 30 mins on the phone with Expedia the reservation was remade and we were PROMISED the original cheaper price. Then on the wedding night the hotel said that they couldn't give it to us for that price no matter what. We had the papers from Expedia that promised the lower price and the hotel REFUSED to acknowledge them saying that they don't ever offer out their rooms for that cheap. She (the lady at the hotel) ended up giving us a discount (though not as good as the one Expedia promised) and said we should contact Expedia for a refund. It ended up only being about $9.00 so we didn't bother with it but we refuse to use Expedia again. That was our experience... hope yours is 210% better!
Good Luck!

Ugh, that's one of my worries. The room we booked in Phoenix we were also told was too low for concierge which is why they wouldn't give us anything but a regular room, but eventually gave us the concierge lounge key. They also told us to talk to Expedia to get our money back, which we tried but they never really did anything with that despite our calls and letters. I'm a little encouraged by the good reports others have had though so we might give it a try again, but if it ever didn't work out I don't know what we'd do since it's such a busy time of the year then.
