I see with the new online banking that the availability thread is gone. Is there now a thread where members can post what availability they saw that someone might want.

For example, I was just looking on the site for certain dates for a 1 bdrm at BCV and 5 nights from October 8th to the 13th were available. There was also a 1bdrm boardwalk view for 3 nights from September 29th to October 2nd. Since this is during the F&W festival, I'm sure some members would be interested.

What rooms are available when a member looks, may not be available once that member has posted what they saw.

Since members can check for themselves, it's just not necessary.

except each member can check their home resort out to 11 months. As I am planning a vacation at a non home resort, I would like to know if where I want to stay is already booked. If it is, I'll just book my home resort and not risk having nowhere to stay if I wait till the 7 month mark to book.

Theoretically if members checked their home resort on a daily basis and reported that in the new improved availability thread, we would all have access to that 7-11 month window.

this is a good idea, regardless.

that way if you find out something is available at 10 months out, but it's gone at 7 months out, you would still have a reservation to fall back on...

It still doesn't matter, what if i tell you everything is booked for 2 months in a row and then on your 7 month day 5 rooms open up but you don't look because you think it is all booked? Personally it is a pet peeve of mine that people do book there home resort at 11 month and then look to move at 7 and cancel ressies. I plan to travel every year during F&W but not for F&W, but more for MNSSHP. I will NOT book my home of BWV because i do not want to stay in the mayhem and i know there will be much more appreciative people who get it at the 7-month window.

As they say at my daughter's pre-school.....you get what you get and you don't get upset:cool2:

This would help a point renter like me! I am going to drive the dvc owner to drink with all the angst to get a room locked in. I ask her to check every 5 seconds and she is amazingly patient with me.

Sure the likelihood that I see the post and can turn around and get it booked before it's gobbled are small...but it makes me feel better to know there is hope. :)

On a side note, I wish Disney would fix the waitlist situation. If someone cancels a room, it should get compared to the waitlist before going back out for booking...doesn't seem like that is happening.

Are you a member:confused3

As mentioned, we have decided that this type of information serves no real purpose as availability changes all time.

Even if something is booked during the 11 - 7 month period, it could open up at a later date due to owners switching out reservation. or vice versa--be there right up until the 7 month window opens and be gone that day.

I myself was able to secure a standard view room for my May trip in March by checking daily. It was not available for almost 2 weeks and then suddenly, there it was--all 4 nights I needed.

Nope...I rent points therefore can't access the online system at the 7 month mark to personally check daily. I think you can consider that ability a perk of membership and a drawback of renting. Maybe one day I will be a member myself!!

The person I rent from is great about checking for me, but it is nice to be able to see it for yourself. But really- I a thread to ask others to check avail for you doesn't really make sense when you could check online. Speaking from experience, if you arent looking real time someone else checking is meaningless.
The inventory goes in and out so fast you can't get an accurate heads up.

It wouldn't help. For rooms where availability is tight seven months out, by the time you call your owner with "it's available" and they made the reservation, the room could be gone. For rooms without tight availability, you won't need to bug your owner. As a renter, find an owner who owns points at the resort you want, make your reservations as soon as you can, and then there isn't any need to know availability.

Beggars can't be choosers

Sorry if it is wrong, but I did get a chuckle out of your comment :lmao:

As a new member myself, while waiting for our purchase to go through the purchase process (resale) the availabilty thread was awesome to calm my anxiety about getting the reservations we wanted when our purchase was complete. When the online system appeared, and the thread was closed....it was like being in the dark until we were entered into the system.

I LOVE the online booking and am glad it was up and running when my contract closed. Viewing online makes that thread totally obsolete......for owners.

Someone renting points from someone who obviously doesn't need them or can't use them that time is a beggar? I don't think so.

Anyone is allowed to have an opinion on MS having a wait list then very obviously NOT using it correctly.

It's not obsolete for owners at all. We can only see far in advance for what we own. Sometimes (or for me, all the time so far) we don't WANT to book at our home resort, and want a peek.

While the availability forum wasn't perfect *at all*, and it was totally reliant on the goodwill of others, it was *something*.

The availability thread was not about what was available, only what might not be available. You couldn't use that thread to see what might still be availalbe.
