Hello all -

I’ve rented many times in the past, and planed to rent enough points for Poly in early January (New Years/Marathon week) here soon.

But I’m wondering if I should buy resale (Saratoga), hope that it’s completed in 4 months and get Poly at the 7 month window. With all that said, we are very happy staying many places (love BWV, BCV, BLT, would be fine with OKW, SSR, AKV some too). So, I think buying SSR for most economical makes sense for us.

How likely do you think I am to buy in a 4 month window, and then be able to use the points at 7 months to get Poly Studios?

Not very.

We own at WL, BW & AK. over the last few years have had issues booking certain categories of studios at all three for various popular 11 month windows

I attribute it to both members walking & pent up Covid demand. No idea why borrowing points was again allowed, as I haven’t seen availability normalize.

In particular, I’m referencing a recent early Dec res that I struggled to book at WL for 2023. Never an issue in the past to book it at 11 months :confused3

I’ll be the first to say it. Buy where you want to stay & add more points than you think you will use.

Then, look at the appropriate point charts for your dream resorts you hope to book, will vary from SSRs requirements

Otherwise, unless you are willing to buy enough points for a 1BR or book A studio at ur home resort @ 11 months (& hope for a WL to come through), you could be in for a pricey misstep

Ontheuptick, I am not sure of the dates you want. Jan 1, 2024, New Years Day, will be a Monday. The marathon weekend (Thurs to Sun) will be Jan 11-14. When Jan 1 is a Sunday, the marathon weekend is usually the weekend immediately after that like it was this year, but when it is Monday, Disney usually moves marathon weekend to the second weekend in Jan. If you are intending to actually get two weeks during that time at Poly at 7-months out, you should assume your chances are slim to none (and much closer to none).

Jan 1 and Marathon weekend (the Thurs to Sun) are among the extremely high DVC demand times. When there is that large period between New Year's Day and marathon weekend, what will likely happen at Poly is that studios will be gone well before 7-months out for Jan 1 and also Jan 11 through 13. For the time in between those dates, there may be some chance that some of the days may be open at 7-months out, but don't expect all of them to be open or more than two or three consecutive days.

And chances for other resorts will not be better, e.g., even SSR and OKW can have studios filled before 7-months out for Jan 1 and marathon weekend time.

Just to add -- they released the dates for the comeback of the Disneyland Half, and it's Jan 11 - 14 with WDW Marathon Weekend the weekend before.

I'm assuming you are talking about marathon, which is not NYE. I know nothing about NYE and would assume it will be very difficult as a school holiday.

Marathon is tough, but you should be able to piece something together. I got several waitlists to fill for 2022 marathon and pulled off a BW/Poly split stay. Booked at about 4-5 months. There were multiple versions of my waitlist adventures that I was happy with.

I'm assuming you don't mind a split stay. I'd start by booking whatever can, probably SSR/OKW, splitting the trip in half. If you can't even book that, then start with SSR waitlist. When other people's waitlists fill, they will cancel their SSR rooms. Then waitlist AK (Kidani savanna) or Poly (not lake), two waitlists, one for each half of the trip. AK and Poly both have a LOT of rooms, and this has decent odds. Shuffle around waitlists when something fills. I have my phone set for a special ring when I get an email from the DVC booking email, which usually means a waitlist filled.

This won't be a problem if you get on it now. Great time to buy.

It is unlikely you'll get a Marathon weekend reservation at 7 months, unless you want a Poly Bungalow. You might be able to get something at SSR, but even that is "iffy". Someone else mentioned a split stay, which is absolutely possible if you're going to be spending more than the 3-4 day weekend around the Marathon.

I'd suggest renting the reservation, and working on your own point purchase without the expectation of using it for the Marathon weekend in January 2024.
