We just have been submitted to ROFR for 350 points at BWV, and with it they currently have 700 points available, 350 to be used by July 31st, and 350 with an August use year. My question if we pass ROFR would there potentially be any place to use them so quickly? The reason for the quick turnaround is we were going to go to Disney for my sons 1st birthday, but then we decided to buy DVC points, and think it would be a waste to pay for a hotel stay and do the DVC purchase.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think you have a pretty good chance at OKW or SSR, at least. About two weeks ago, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to reserve a 1 bdrm at OKW for the week after Memorial Day, 5/31 and 6/1. After Easter, attendance will drop a bit until the beginning of June, so May might work well for you.

Our next trip is planned for 5/2-6 at OKW. They had good availability of one and two bedroom units; it was not good for studios on those dates. They offered us SSR, but we wanted our home resort.

Disney Cruise Line??
Great for younger kids - With all those points you could do land/sea. Generally I have always rented our points and used the cash to go on DCL, but if I had a bunch of points set to expire this would be a great option. This is assuming that you complete your purchase by Mar 21.

If you just submitted for ROFR, then you are looking at about 4 weeks until you hear, then another 1-4 weeks to close. You are probably looking at closing in April. Sometime between April 1st and 21st. (Just a WAG, someone could give you a more recent experienced based guess. That would leave you with only 2-5 weeks lead time for a room.

I think you could have decent luck in May to get something that close. If your dates are at all flexible that would help. Also, if you don't mind a split stay, you would have even better luck.

Couple of things here. You only have to be submitted for ROFR by 3/20 to have "full" membership.

Also, I think that the Rule of 4 would prohibit a last minute cruise. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

You could have requested that the points be banked before you purchased. You have until 3/31 to bank points for this year. I just don't think that you will have closed that soon.

MS has been know to allow a "super secret, one time banking exception" so that might be a way to go as well!

If I were you I would have the sellers bank the 2010 before Mar 31st for you! You will then have 700 points to use over the next year and still beable to do at least a weeks stay (2 bedroom) in May, June or July with the 350 points! If points are not in the system for you by 3/31 you will be forced to use all 700 or lose them.

Thanks for the advice everyone. We are going to have them bank the 350 due in August. We appreciate the opinions on being able to find a place in May or late April. I really appreciate the advice.

That's really the better choice. You can still book a trip for late April/May if you find availability (you would just borrow points from the 2011 use year).

If there isn't availability to your liking, you won't lose any points come July 31, 2011 if the points were banked. You'd just need to use the 350 banked points by July 31, 2012. (You can bank up to 350 from your 2011 use year into your 2012 use year if necessary).

Good luck with ROFR (but I don't think you'll need it. Seems like most everything is getting through). Hope your closing goes quickly.
