We just signed papers for a Bay Lake Tower membership. They said it should take 8 weeks to finalize everything and go through ROFR. In 10 weeks, we should have our cards and be able to book a trip. The membership has 258 points that need to be used by February 2017. By mid June when we can book, what do you think will be available in a 2 bedroom for October, November, and December? Probably just old key west and Saratoga? Could we get lucky elsewhere?

In those months, you might also find options at Vero Beach, Hilton Head and, perhaps, Aulani?

Can you get lucky? Sure. But it's extremely unlikely. And would require constantly checking availability multiple times every day.

Not even. You likely will find a couple days here or there but not an entire week so you might have to do a split stay. Oct and Early Nov is F&W and busy. Thanksgiving and early Dec are busy due to Xmas decorations and MVMCP (and Thanksgiving break from school). Then Xmas Eve through NYE is busy. So, parts of Nov and Dec might be do-able. Your best shot might be for a January or February stay. The home resort window would be March thru July for a Feb stay. For example, for a stay starting Feb 21, you could book it with home resort priority until July 20, but anyone in DVC can book it on July 21. Once the 7 month window opens, anything left in BLT will go quickly. So you may get lucky and get your points before the home resort window closes. This is your best chance. In 10 weeks, it will be mid June, so you will still have time for anything left at BLT.

If things get dragged out, you will be able to book any resort at the 7 month window. Get on line at 8AM Eastern 7 months out, and you will have several choices, but they will go quickly. A lot will disappear by 8:05.
Jan and February are not crazy months for DVC so your chances are good to get something you will like.

At BLT in Feb, there is still decent availability for a standard view 2 BR, although the last week in Feb is unavailable.

As for Oct, Nov, Dec - these are very heavy months, and your chances would be much less, but it never hurts to check. Saratoga Springs is a huge resort, so your chances would be best there, as you noted.

October - December is going to be tough. January not so much.

Everythng has been said, I would only say, not to be down on SSR and OKW. While they may not be the "most desirable" they are both nice resorts. I "got stuck at" OKW once with holding points, and I liked it quite a bit.

I shall defend Saratoga again!

It is a lovely resort, and during the busy season it has some benefits of being a bit removed from everything for some downtime away from the mayhem. (December, imma looking at you.) I would say the same is true of OKW, although I do prefer the theme at Saratoga personally.

Thanks everyone! We just passed ROFR! I am expecting to stay at SSR in Sept/Oct or waiting to go until January. Either way, i'm excited! I have stayed at SSR and really enjoy it! I think it's going to be a much more popular resort as Disney Springs gets completed!

I passed ROFR 3/2 and still don't have my member number, so many variables in the process, be realistic that it might be close to a total of 2 1/2-3 months from passing before you have your member number. It may come sooner, sending you pixie dust for a speedy process.

Yeah. We passed ROFR 11/20 and got our membership number in the mail on 1/5 which is about 6 1/2 weeks. Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years was all in there though, so hopefully it will be faster than that.

Not sure if this makes a difference, but we are supposed to close on May 26th. So I'm hoping we will be able to book mid to late June. Either way, I know we will be able to go in January to use our points before they expire. However, I am hoping we will be able to hit food and wine and MNSSHP.
