DD is at her summer program for the afternoon.

I am not going to open it, but she won't get home until sometime around 6pm. I am picking her up.

Do I take the envelope with me & let her open it in the car? (enduring deafening squeals of disappointment and/or delight?)

Do I not tell her and let her see it when we walk back into the house?

FTR, I have already held it up to the light... Darn CollegeBoard people, it's in a security-envelope!

Auuuuuuggggggghhhh!!!!!!

Thanks for letting me vent, I have a feeling that this afternoon is going to go verrrrrrrrrrry slowly ...

Take it with you. Big news like that can't wait.

Take it with you. Give her the option of when she wants to open it.
(And it might be nice to tell her we're stopping at Baskin Robbins. It's a big day. A cone might be nice.)

What if you accidently take it into the shower and in the steam, oops, it falls open?! ;-) j/k

Take it with you and ice cream no matter what! *crossing my fingers for you and DD*

Hey, if you're going crazy over an AP score, how are you going to handle it senior year when the college acceptance/(rejection) letters arrive and she's at school (then maybe an after school activity, too)? :goodvibes

Bring it with you! I would be so mad at my mom if she didn't, I'd go crazy! (Just like I am right now! Where is the mail?!!??!)

Open it Now!!!!!!

My DD is not home and I got pre-permission to open anything from any college or testing service. However, we are still waiting for the APs. Maybe tomorrow.

"Pre-permission" or not, you still have the option of letting your young person open their own scores/letters. :flower3:
I think it would be very nice if you'd just be patient, wait and let your daughter open her letters. :thumbsup2

If I wait, DD would kill me. Let us rephrase permission to direct DD directive.

I think taking it with you & stopping for ice cream is a great idea. Our mail did not have AP scores in them today. Hopefully tomorrow.

Ours actually arrived on Saturday. Of course, we are a family who pays $8 to get the scores by phone in late June.

The things you learn on the DIS. Really? How did you do this?

If you go onto College Board's web site and look at the part about the AP tests, it gives an 800 number you can call. You do need this year's AP #. If you don't have it, you can talk to a live person and get the number. You punch in a credit card no. over the phone. It's $8 per student (not $8 per test.)

The site says that scores are released on July 1st but over on collegeconfidential.com there are always kids monitoring it who find out that the scores are available earlier.

We will DEFINITELY be going this next year. Thanks for the tip :thumbsup2 !

PS - collegeconfidential kind of scares me....I think it can get to be a depressing place sometimes.

So how did everyone do?

DD20 took 4 AP classes. She made a 5 in English, 3s in both AP and US History, and a 1 in Spanish. I didn't know it was even possible to make a 1, but she did it!!!

Now, 4 years later, she double majored in English and Spanish and is fluent in both. So don't freak out if you get a lower score than you'd like!! It may mean missing the chance to get a few hours credit but honestly, I'd much rather have a student who decided on her own to commit to learning the subject and achieved it. I think that's a much better life lesson than having to miss 3 hours of Spanish 101.

LOL, it really is not that bad! There are plenty of threads in the parents' forums about kids who have much less than 2400 with gpa's of 3.0-3.3 and those not looking for top tier schools.

Yes, I was just going to suggest that you hang out on the Parents forum of collegeconfidential. The kids' posts can get pretty intense....I guess there are those perfect kids out there but they can be irritating. But most of the parents are pretty down to earth, and those who aren't hear about it from the other parents!

Between my son and daughter, they've taken 13 AP exams and have a sampling of every single score. In the two courses where they've received an AP exam grade of one, they've received an A in the class. There is one class that my child truly barely passed, and he got a 3 on the exam (with no studying because we both assumed it was a lost cause.)
