My DH and I along with another couple want to go away for the weekend in the Fall. My friend and I absolutely love photography so we would love to go somewhere we could enjoy some neat picture taking. (the colorful Fall leaves, etc)

We live in southern NJ and would like to keep the drive 4 hours or under....any ideas???? TIA!

Pocono's. It is really pretty in the fall with the leaves changing.

I am not sure how long it would take you but for fall foliage you can't beat VT or NH. There are a lot of autumn cycling trips through the area that have routes designed for seeing the fall colors. That would be my suggestion.

I have 2 suggestions, which we've done. The first is the Mohonk Mountain House, which is expensive, but includes meals. I can't even imagine how stunning this place is in the fall. Hiking is amazing - they have bunches of gazebos on cliffs:

Another weekend trip we love is New Hope. We bring bikes (you can rent them), and go for long bike rides along the river. You can also canoe, or take boat trips. There is fun shopping, lots of great restaurants with outdoor seating along the street and river, bars, etc. Across the river is Lambertville, with antiquing and great restaurants. This is our new favorite B & B, literally less than a minute's walk from the main street:

I'm in north Jersey, and they are between 1 and 1 1/2 hours from us.

Thanks for the ideas...keep them coming!!

Another vote for the Finger Lakes. Can't beat the scenery or their fabulous wineries. Their prices are fantastic and the wine is too! We also love Chautauqua, NY or Ellicottville, NY. I haven't done the math on the drives for you though, but those are places I've personally visited and would absolutely go back to.

I will check into all of these!! Some are a bit far though, I had already thought of Mystic, CT but it's more like 5 or so hours.

MOHONK!! If you can afford it- go it's beautiful! and great photo spots great hiking!

Where in SJ are you? It really shouldn't be more than 5 hours. I live in Boston and my parents in SJ and I can make that trip in 4 or 4 and a half depending on traffic.

Another suggestion is Western MA near Springfield. In Springfield itself there is plently of stuff to do and the further you travel up I-91 towards VT there are lots of picturesque areas. Also about 20 mins north of Springfield is the Yankee Candle Flagship store which I LOVE going to especially in the fall.

We're south of Atlantic City. Mapquest says 4 hrs 55 min.

I would love to go to MOHONK but that is a LOT of $$$$$$$$! I'm looking to keep the price down a bit. Would love to go there someday though!!

Where's a nice place to stay in or around Mystic????

I always knock an hour off of Mapquest. My parents live about 20 mins outside of Philly and when I have gone to Mystic from there it has taken me about 3 and half hours. If you took the Parkway,to the Tappen Zee and then just get on 95 it should be just about the same time as it takes me.
