Autotrain Question

Planning on taking the Autotrain in August. We want to get a room for 1 night before getting on the train because the drive from CT to VA is more then we are used to driving alone.

So We would like to stay closer to VA and we saw the comfort Inn but wasn't sure if there were any other options.

Have you used the Autotrain and stayed over nearby? Where have you stayed in VA?

We have stayed at the Comfort Inn in Lorton several years ago. They offered a discounted rate since we were traveling on the autotrain. The rooms were nice. they offered a small buffet breaksfast. It is located just across the highway from the Amtrak station.

We are from CT too. We are scheduled for the autotrain on Aug 11th. We usually leave central CT around 2 am and arrive in VA around 11 am. That is after several rest room stops (4 kids always need to go!) We also stop for breaksfast in Maryland. This is our 4th Disney trip on the Autotrain.

Yes there are places in Lorton which are fine and work out well. If you want a bit more entertainment for the time you'll have you could continue a few exits south on 95 where you'll find Potomac Mills - one of those HUGE outlet malls..... there are several motels there and just about everything else under the sun....

I stayed at the courtyard by marriot up by the mall - I want to say 167

I will never stay at the comfort inn again because once I drove down and checked in to find they had given my room away.
( The hotel was being used by troops leaving for deployment)
It was 8pm a night and they expected me to go to another hotel. (I am not familiar with the area)

They obviously have a contract with the military to house soldiers before they leave. Anyway, don't assume that it's only Comfort Inn that could do that. We live 45 minutes away from Lorton so it's very easy for us to use. There are many hotesl near Potomac Mills because some people see it as a vacation destination. Do a search for hotels within 10-15 miles of Lorton and you should come up with a lot. Anything right along I-95 will be fine. None of that area is bad.
