Autotrain question

We're taking the autotrain down in December and have a family bedroom reserved. Does anyone know if there are electrical outlets (for plugging in computer/cell phone chargers etc.) in the family bedrooms?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, there are outlets. I used ours to charge my cel phone. If you want to use something like a hairdryer, I would check with a conducter to make sure the outlet will "carry" something like that.

On a NON autotrain, how big are the bedrooms? They look so tiny like you're in a little cage. 3.5' by 6.8'or 6.1' by 7.1'? That only a third the size of my cube at work.

Are they worth getting?

Roughly the same size (6' 8" x 7' 1") as the Superliner bedroom (6' 6" x 7' 6") on Auto Train. The roomette is even smaller (picture a room the size of a twin bed). It's quite comfortable though.

Most people find them well worth the added cost (especially with the complimentary meals included) for a good nights sleep.

DH and I were in a roomette (3'6" X 6'7") for our June trip. Dh is 6'2 and weighs about 240, I am 6' (no comment on weight, but I weigh less than DH).
We were comfortable in the roomette. There is a large window on the outside of the train and the wall facing the hallway is also pretty much glass from about halfway up (there are curtains for all windows for privacy), so we did not feel claustrophobic at all. It was a little "tight" with the beds prepared, but once you're in bed it's no problem. Remember, you can leave your roomette/room and go back to the lounge if you like, you are not required to stay in your accommodations. Last Oct we were in a bedroom. It had its own private bathroom and was considerably larger, but there is quite a price difference between the roomette and bedroom.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I guess it's out of the question for 2 adults and 1 child.

The roomette maximum occupancy is 2. I believe it is also 2 for the bedrooms. On the AutoTrain there is a Family bedroom that has accommodations for 2 adults and 2 children.

Are you taking your car?

They'll let you put five in a family bedroom? We're a family of 5 now- me, dh, dd 12, ds 8, and dd 2. We weren't sure if they'd let us do that. Right now, we're booked as coach (we've done that before, as well as having a sleeper), but trying to talk dh into upgrading.

Has anyone ever done that family suite- the two bedrooms combined? Any idea on the cost?

Thanks- sorry to hijack the thread.

And yes- there are plugs in the family bedroom. We plugged in the laptop and watched DVDs last time.

Have a good trip.
