So we were schedule to drive down this year as my darling just cannot stand to fly, and it was the only way she would let me go to Disney this year. That, and we had to go to the beach.

We've been planning to do the drive on an early Saturday morning, stay over Saturday night, and arrive at Vero Beach on Sunday.

Well, after thinking it over, today I went to the Amtrak station and bought tickets for the Auto-Train. I went to the station because I came across a Companion Voucher that allowed the two of us two travel for the cost of one of us.

Good deal, I think. The grand total RT for August 29th and September 6th came to $513. Flying would've been cheaper and faster, but all well, we'll have a different experience.

We still have a six hour drive to get to the Auto-train, but like I said, adventure time.

Very excited to fall depart Virginia on a train and get off on Florida.

8 days and counting.

My parents took the autotrain when they went to Venice a few years ago; but drove right past WDW.

They said it is pretty noisy downstairs, so they went upstairs and it was much quieter.

They said that the whistle blew at every crossing, so they didn't sleep much.

My stepmother did bring some nice munchies and sandwiches, etc. and they just bought sodas/coffee/tea on the train. They are pretty much gourmet eaters and love to nosh.....

They also brought some hand sanitizer and wipes, for the restrooms - they got pretty bad as the night wore on.

They were also lucky enough to be the first car off the train, so they were off in no time.

Have fun enjoying the scenery!

I happen to be deathly afraid to fly myself, but being over 20 hours away by car I use Xanax.. You still may be sure the plane will crash, but you don't care if it does!

Enjoy the autotrain. We traveled on it on 8/4 and 8/13. The train was early on both legs. Our vehicle was towards the end for unloading. Last 2 years we were able to be cars 5 and 3! The trip was quite. Coach seating has a small section on the lower level for seating and the rest is restrooms. Meals are included in the fare too.

We have traveled 5 trips on the AT to Disney. It does help that DH is employed by Amtrak too!

I'd be happy to help with any ?'s you may have

I love the Autotrain - I have taken it probably 25 times on trips to Disney! I love just relaxing and letting them to the driving! Nice to know I don't have to drive pass mile marker after mile marker on I95. I love bringing a good book and watching the scenery pass. I find it is worth the price of not doing all the mindless monotonous driving. :)

I prefer to get a sleeper, but have done coach about 4 times. I usually sleep on and off in the coach seat during the night, but enough that I am rested. I never had issues with the bathrooms, since there are usually 3 to choose from. Food has been good, always can find something I like.

Like said before, we see the train as part of the adventure!

I'm considering doing this for our upcoming trip. We have a 1 year old and we'll probably get a sleeper room. I've priced it out and now I just have to decide exactly how much driving hubby and I want to do with a little guy and a car loaded with everything a small child could need....oh...and one little suitcase for us...lol.
