I get to sometimes talk to an engineer where I work whenever they come by. Was told chevron dropped their sponsorship. Autopia more than likely is in danger. A classic ride for years.

Not sure how a ride in a park would need a sponsor as Disney is a pretty nice sponsor. That'd be like Indy closing if Kodak left. They need Disney more than Disney needs them.

I tend to agree that this type of relationship benefits the sponsor a good deal more than Disney.

Now whether Autopia is endangered/eclipsed by the existence of Carsland is a different question (I don't think it should be but can see an argument there...)

I have read reports they will be redoing that area in the future. Possibly removing Autopia and Finding Nemo to change it up..

I would love to see Autopia 2.0 with all electric or solar powered vehicles. Green Energy certainly goes hand in hand with Tomorrowland and it would preserve a classic attraction. I would hate to see all the kids who dream of their first driving experience to be let down if it closes.

Apparently it also has to do with the car engines being made by Kawasaki which no longer exists. Hard to replace parts when they go down. Have to custom make I think that was what he said.

Sponsorships have a lot to do w rides. My EX use to work for GMC and there was an issue with test track at EPCOT with the cost and maintenance of that ride. A few years ago was an issue with that.

He did say no new sponsor and would go down.....only time will tell.

that's more like it! I would be so bummed if Autopia were taken out. It's popularity is definitely still going strong based on the line that is ever present. Even with those noisy, smelly gas cars.

What I've read elsewhere (whether true or not) is that Finding Nemo Subs is likely safe for a while...after that investment, it doesn't make sense to just take them out after 5 years. And I understand that a fair portion of the Autopia track goes over the subs building, so it would be difficult to replace one ride without the other. Not impossible, but I'd personally be rather surprised if anything that drastic happened in the next 5 years, at a minimum.

It seems plausible to me that they might shorten Autopia at some point in the not-so-distant future, though. Operating/maintenance costs could go down a bit and it could free up some space (probably the parts of the track that used to be in Fantasyland's old Autopia, granted).

Autopia, Inoventions, and the people mover track will be either removed or replaced within a few years.

I definitely think they should put in new electric vehicles, but otherwise they should keep the ride. It's a classic. That said, if they did remove it I wouldn't be too upset.....lol

I agree! :thumbsup2

The only thing I wish they'd do is fix the gas pedals on those cars so they're not so hard to keep pushed down. By the end of the ride my foot hurts from keeping that pedal down, even after switching feet. It's a classic ride and I'd hate to see it go.
