Automatic room charge for room only reservations.

I checked into POFQ this morning and was surprised to get a room txt. I had an outstanding balance on a room only reservation which you can only pay off during checkin. Disney is now auto-charging the card on your MDE account the balance if you use online reservation. This is room only reservations and the charge is the morning that you arrive. This does not follow the limits for normal room charges and was an immediate charge with my bank.

This doesn't impact me, but I can see someone wanting to pay with a gift card to get an unexpected surprise.

They have been charging the card like this for at least the last few years, since they set up the MDE system. We've had our credit card charged before we even left the airport. But you can always apply the gift cards when you arrive and have them reverse the credit card charges. Or call Disney the day before your arrival date to pay with gift cards ahead of time. That is what I did.

This was happening to our Room Only at least as far back as 2014 so not new.

The only time it bothered me was in August 2014. Checking in Saturday - Wednesday. DH was working in Orlando the weekdays so I was going to pay Saturday and Sunday, he was going to pay Monday and Tuesday ..... but I was hit with all the nights the morning before check-in. Front desk fixed it, crediting me and billing him but it is something to consider if waiting until check-in day to pay.

The only way to prevent it is to not have your credit card on your MDE account. Of course this means you won't be eligible to bypass the desk when you arrive.

Yeah, this isn't new. We went in 2013 and it was done that way

Yeah when you choose to check in online the card that you put is the card you wish to leave on file. Just like when you check in at the desk, you can change your card if you will like to before you do the check in online.
