Automatic pool cleaners

We decided to break down and buy a automatic pool cleaner for our above ground pool. :cool1: It is a 18 X 38 oval and it is dug out at one end.

I am looking for advice. They have so many options. What do you like or dislike about your cleaners? Do they work on the side and bottom? Do they clean up leaves as well as dead bugs?

Any thoughts would help. Our local pool guy stated "I am tired of dealing with those things. If you want to buy one on line go ahead" Nice attitude after I just purchased so much stuff!!! :confused3

We are also changing out the baquacil back to chlorine. What a pain that was.

TIA

We have one for our inground pool and it really cleans well...only thing we don't like is that it seems to spend most of its time in the deep end and doesn't clean the shallow end very often. But if we just need some leaves sucked up, we just do the manual vacuum. If we aren't really in a hurry and can leave it in for a few hours, it really does the job. It does climb the sides in the deep end, but not the straight up sides in the shallow end.

We heard that switching back to chlorine was a pain, we use Nature's 2 in our pool...very little chlorine- it uses minerals to disinfect the water. We really like it, seems to be "softer" water. Chlorine is so drying to the skin!
Good luck with your cleaner!!!

We have a 24 ft above ground round pool. While we didn't buy an automatic pool cleaner, we did buy the pool buster. (Think dust buster for your pool.) This thing really works!!!! I just charge it up, attach it to a pole, and vacuum up quick, quick. No attaching to the filter. I've even vacuummed with the kids in the pool. You can also take the vacuum off the pole, and go underwater with it. Of course the kids all want to vacuum the pool!!! I love my pool buster!!!! Best 250.00 we spent on the pool.

We have a Barracuda - only one moving part so less likely to break. We chose Barracuda over the Kreepy Krauly ...

I have looked at those also. How does it work?

I have a Kreepy Krauly and love it. There is only one moving part and I've never had a problem with it, and it keeps my pool absolutely spotless. My father also has one and hasn't had a problem with his either.

I choose that one because it came very highly recommended from several different people. It was worth every penny.

wvjovifan - what brand of cleaner do you have?

Ours is a NaviGATOR. We got it when we put in the pool several years ago. Works great!

The Kreepy Krauly was one of the first ones I looked at. This one crawls on the bottom right? Does it clean the sides also? Do you have a real smooth bottom on the pool and is it flat or dug out? My DH thinks that the cleaners that crawl on the bottom would get stuck in the lower area and on the wrinkles in the liner. (Yes we have a few :confused3 )

So many choices...Thank you everyone for your imput. I told my DH that this is where to go when you wanted to find out about something.
