I'm not sure if that's what it is called, but I'm thinking about getting one for my mother. Are they expensive? How does it get installed, by a mechanic or the manufacturer?
My husband had one of these installed in his car. I am thinking it was a couple hundred dollars, not sure of the exact amount. He loved it. He sold that car and wants to get one in the new car. Not sure who installed it, i will have to ask him.
The manufacturer will most likely not install it. I've had both of mine installed by a professional at the electronics store that sold them. My starter cost $280 installed. But yours will probably be cheaper b/c mine came with the remote door unlocker (my car didn't already have one.)
DH wants a remote starter for his car also. I'm so paranoid that even though we have a name recommended by our mechanic, that they'll "mess up" the wiring of the car. Should I not be worried and get him what he really wants? He's thinking of being able to get into the car and having it be comfortable (winter or summer) for his hour 20 minute ride home.
I have one in my maxima.. It was added later by a car audio installer.. At the time it cost $300 I think.. If you start the car and don't unlock the doors or make movement.. the car turns off after 15 minutes as a safety procedure..
I've never had a problem with it starting other cars or mine be affected by anyone else's remote starters.. Each one has a special signal or frequency..whatever it is on..
I really like mine. The first one we had installed by an electronics store; the most recent one by the dealer when I bought my car. I had the first one for four years before I traded in the car and never had a bit of trouble. So far, so good for the second one. I live in the midwest and we get really cold mornings. I go to work at six a.m. and it's pretty great starting it in my jammies and climbing in to a prewarmed and defrosted car!
My husband and I both have them. Bought them each for about $50 at Target or Sam's Club. My husband is pretty mechanically inclined so he put it in both of our cars and has also done some for others. If you know someone who could put it in it would be a lot cheaper.
I've had mine for 2 years now and I love it! No more getting in a cold car in winter! Mine cost around $200. One thing though, when you turn your car off make sure you leave the heater on high and the heater blower on so when you start the car it will warm up.
