My 4 yr old started an official Disney autograph book 2 yrs ago.... It's in his "keepsake box" - Yup, on the shelf in his closet...

I was thinking about bringing it on our trip at the end of the month and buying a new one for our 17 mth old ... BUT... was thinking today that it might be nicer to buy a cap at WDW and have it signed instead.

Any thoughts / opinions?

I am a fan of the picture on one page, autograph on the other, so the moment is truly captured.

I, too, think an autograph on a page is more of a lifelong keepsake (especially if you scrapbook or put together a special photo album). A hat gets worn, outgrown...and, in all likelihood, thrown away.

The thing with autograph books is that they do tend to end up on a shelf. Hats (and shirts and other clothing items) get worn and therefore used more often.

If you do bring a clothing item, please bring a sharpie as well! I can't tell you the number of times I've seen people hand a character a hat and a ballpoint pen - or even worse, a pencil! Also, I recommend a full-sized sharpie as opposed to a compact one. The compact ones are tempting because they're easier to carry, but they're harder for the characters to hold.

On the other hand, the nice thing about autograph books is that they will hold far more autographs than a hat or a shirt will. In any case, have fun!

Tricky Tricky :-)

Maybe I'll do the autograph book and also get a couple to sign a hat for him.

I'm sure he would be thrilled to wear a hat that Mickey or someone else signed - fun to show to family and his friends :-)

Should I use a fabric marker? or do you think that a permanent marker would be ok?

Just a note on full size as opposed to compact sharpies. As long as they are opened when you hand them to the character and they are fat i dont see it being a problem. When we were just in disney i used a short but very fat pen and the characters had no problems holding it.

My DD has tried something new for each trip...autograph book, hat, t-shirt, autograph hound, post cards, and photograph album (the type that holds one picture per page with a title line). Her favorite, by far, has been the autograph hound. Yes, he was a pain to carry around, but what we don't do for our children! :earsgirl:

My favorite was to take my daughters princess story book and each of the characters signed on the first page of their story. My daughter says she will save that book for her little girlwhen she is a mommy.

It depends on the characters. Chip and Dale, for example, don't have much trouble with the short Sharpies, but they're not so easy for Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore (who has no thumbs).

Definitely make sure the pens are opened! I'm friends with the characters, and they are very grateful for uncapped pens and opened autograph books!
