I am redecorating my kitchen to be mickey....we are heading to WDW in 3 months and am thinking it would be cool to have the characters autograph an apron for me....would regular everyday sharpie work and stay on if washed???? I have already bought them for the kids photo mats and really don't want to buy and have to keep track of two different kinds of markers...anybody do a pillowcase or hat like this and can give me any info???

TIA!!!!

Regular Sharpies will more than likely run on fabric. Sharpie does makes a fabric marked called 'Stained Fabric Markers' from the ad I found on Amazon:

- This fabric markers make your fabric truly original
- The brush tip writes thick and the ink has been specially developed to resist fading when washed
- Includes 4 fabric markers per pack
- Available in black, blue, green and red colors
- Conforms to astm d-4236

They cost around $10.00± for a pack of 4 colors.

Hope this helps.

Even if the ink doesn't run, it will 'feather' when they write on the fabric. Fabric markers can be found at any store similar to Joann's & frequently Wal-Mart too. Also take a clipboard to give the characters something hard to write against--most do NOT have any surface available.

We have used a regular sharpie on a pillowcase and a canvas bag. They have both washed well and look great!!

An apron gets washed a lot, so I would do fabric markers. Sharpie makes them - I have seen a huge display at hobby lobby near the fabric dyes. I have used plain sharpies on fabric and it depends on the colors. I have had them wash out (and stick to other clothes - ruining them) and on other colors they fade. Black holds up for a while but will still fade usually. I finally took the hint and got the markers for the job. :)

If you go to a craft store, check out if they are on sale or not - they have % off coupons that you can use to help with the price.

better yet - check the craft section of your local thrift store/goodwill. I found a brand new pack of crayola fabric markers for .50 cents. In walmart they were 10!

its always worth a shot!
