Since the kids are getting older, I really can't see them doing the autograph book anymore with the characters. Something the kids do in school might be neat to do at WDW - have the characters sign the back of their t-shirts instead! :hyper: They could use a permanent marker instead of a "fat pen". Do you think they would allow this?

We did this, but they won't sign a shirt your child is wearing. We just took one, and a book for support underneath! Had a ball with the colored smarty markers!

Odd....I can understand them not being allowed to sign the front of a shirt, but why not the back???

You know...I have no clue! I just read it, and believed it!

I saw one woman with a white 'bucket' hat (like a Gilligan hat) that said "disney" on it on the front and she was having the characters sign the hat. I thought that was pretty cool.

And I think with characters not signing clothes that a child is wearing is ONLY protecting Disney...did we not learn from Tigger not too long ago? I think it's a pretty good rule IMO.

As I said, the front of the shirt, yes, makes sense. The BACK of the shirt....give me a break!!!

better to be safe then sorry?
you never know.

I know the idea sounds absurb...and you see people (ie - muscians, athletes) signing the backs of shirts all the time...but hey - you never know.

Plus - I think because the article of clothing MAY or MAY NOT be what you want written on (even though you are using this shirt just for signatures) - Disney is again just covering their butts.

I believe its a where do they draw the line- Back? okay- what about the shoulders? Sleeves? Shirt thats down to their tush *technically* that would be the back but quite inappropriate

It's just one of those easier to say "no signing things on people" than to try to limit what can and can't happen- as that can be a whole bag of worms-

I guess I'm old fashioned....I don't think "that way". Allowing a Disney character to sign the back of a shirt is no worse than my kids going into school on Field Day, in thier school's t-shirt, and coming home with sginatures all over the shirt, front, back, sleeves. :D I think if a parent is with the child, holding the child still so that the writing is legible, they should allow it. IF a girl of say 13 or so, went up to any character and wanted them to sign the front of the shirt, by all means, I would definitely expect the character to graciously refuse. ::yes::

I was thinking more that the markers could "bleed" through the shirt onto the kid's skin. Maybe that is a reason, too. Especially since you would want to use permanent markers....Could you see that kid at the pool the next day? With all the characters sigs all over him?!! LOL....

I think the t-shirt idea is cool. What kind of markers do you use, and then do you have to iron them or something to get them to set?

My girls got a light colored baseball hat last trip and I brought some sharpies from home. They LOVE the hats and wear them all the time. Both are WDW hats, one has the small mickey head and the other is a princess hat but you could get them from home as well.

I will second the poster who said the characters will not sign a shirt you are wearing. My dd's had their stitch and lilo and stitch t's on when we met them at MGM. I hadn't thought to have the shirts signed but my dd asked and they would not. Luckily they were wearing sweatshirts around the waist so we quick hit the bathroom and changed. We got back in line and had the shirts signed. Whenever the girls wear either the lilo and stitch shirts or the hats they get lots of comments.

The kids always used the fine sharpie for their t-shirts. :p Only one year in school, one of my kids forgot their marker and the teacher lent them a regular FAT permanent marker!! :earseek: It took a couple days to get their friends names off their backs. (they, of course, thought this was "neat"!!):teeth:

Actually, the no signing clothes that are on the person rule is for safety, in case the character is bumped or something while writing. And this isn't a new rule from that Tigger incident or anything. In fact, the same rule applies for characters at Universal.

They'll be happy to sign shirts and hats though, and they really appreciate it when you come prepared with something for them to hold the shirt against!

The characters will not sign anything that you are wearing on your person, including a baseball hat. You must be able to hand it to them. This is for their own protection, if the marker leaked through on the child's skin or the parents could complain they pressed too hard. Unfortunately we live in a sue, sue, sue society. It makes perfect sense to me. BTW we did the shirts, it works really well if you bring a flattened cereal box inside of the shirt so it doesn't bleed through to the other side. My kids did white baseball hats, and they came out very nice. Have fun.

Except for the fact that your kids school probably doesn't have the same annual income as the Walt Disney Corporation and is not as easy a mark for a lawsuit for any kind of "inappropriate" touching.

Unfortunately always quiet, while I understand your sentiment, I have to agree with Duke Street King. Even the back of a shirt could pose a potential lawsuit. Picture "Tigger was signing my daughter's back, and touched her bottom". Or "Chip was signing my daughter's shirt back, and the pen poked through and the area became infected". Perhaps snot somethingyou would ever thing of doing, but believe me when I tell you, there are people in this world who live to sue, and judges and juries that will tolerate and support their ridiculous lawsuits.

I mean, even on these boards, you will read that someone had a piece of hair on the bathroom floor in their room upon check-in and they expect their entire 10 day stay for free for the mental anguish of it all!

It's really a shame that so FEW jerks in the world make the world a little less 'magical' for the rest of us! I had more fun with my youngest DD back in 2000....I was helping her hold her autograph book when Eeyore signed it for her (her little hand didn't offer enough support for him to be able to easily sign :D ). After Eeyore signed the page in the book, he had 'one of those days' and the pen wandered up my arm, leaving scribbles from the back of my hand up to my elbow! :hyper: He did one of his "Oh bother!" moves when he finished. :jester: We had more fun, none of us thinking, "OOHH! OOHH!! There's ink on my skin! I will lose valuable vacation time trying to scrub this off! Oh, the mental anguish of having to walk around with pen marks all over my arm!!" :crazy2: :faint:

I understand the "legal" aspects for Disney's concerns....it's just a shame that they have to worry about things like that at all!

Hey...this is odd....I actually posted the above comment but for some reason, it showed up under my daughter's user name! :earseek:
