DD mentioned this evening that she intends on collecting autographs. Cool. But, would I be better purchasing an autograph book before we go, probably from EBay or a company that ships internationally. What would be the chances of meeting some characters on the way in before we arrive at the shops?

Are you going straight from the airport to the park? The reason I ask is that most hotels, even most Good Neighbor Hotels, have gift shops where you can buy them. There is a strong chance you will see characters going in. Sometimes characters are in the front just past the gate or in the square just before Main Street. For us, it's just a fun tradition for DH to take DD6 to the gift shop to pick out her book and pen while I check us in. Then we head to the park to fill it up!!!

World of Disney in Downtown Disney would have them as well. I also think they have a little cart off to the left side when you walk in that sells things. Not sure if they have books though. You can find them in a lot of places, or just make your own. Some people do scrapbook pages and then bring them in with a giant sharpie (Characters prefer the giant sharpies to sign since they are easier to hold).

They do have some characters when you first walk in though at times.

Thanks for the cool ideas. We arrive in Anaheim on the Tuesday night from a few nights in LV, which will be late and too tired to get to the parks. But Hyatt does have a gift shop so I'm hoping that I can get one there. Then I had a thought about the Target across the road, which I looked up and they open at 8am and I expect that DL will be opening at 10am that day. Which will give me time as well. I think from previous posts that they may sell the autographs books there.

Thanks for the heads up on the Sharpie pens. I'll get some of those.

I would get the books on the trip. You may find that the parks(or Target) have better selections than what ebay has, plus some books come with photo slots so you can place the character picture next to the character's autograph. I've noticed at least 3 different autograph book styles that I can think of on both sides of Disneyland as you enter the park.

I like the ones Disneyland has, personally. If I wanted to snag a book before encountering any characters that might be hanging out in front of the floral Mickey (after you enter the DL gates) I might line up allllll the way to the left-hand side, and snag one from the stand that's right there once you're in the park. (I assume they have the books, everyone does)

Get one, then go towards the floral Mickey to see if anyone is waiting!

If you're in line and you can see there's no one there, then perhaps enter towards the right, go past the stroller/wheelchair rental area, and you'll see a bigger giftshop kiosk area. Then you could snag one before entering the area starting Main Street where characters often hang out in the mornings!

I don't like the Disney official autograph books. They don't stay open and the paper on each page is so thin.

What I do is buy a small wirebound scrapbook (4 inch by 5 inch) before we leave home. I put our name and address in the back in case we lose it. I have DD turn to a new page for each character. When the trip is over, I can trim a photo and glue it on the opposing page and she has her own mini-photo album on nice card stock as a souvenier.

I know the stand right inside on the right side of the park has the books. I saw them there just two weeks ago. And I agree with Bumbershoot. The books on Disney property are quite fun and sometimes come with a Disney pen as well.

I like this idea! I think I might dothat as well. What a nice keepsake.

I was very disapointed when i went becuase we bought one outside of disney and they have VERY nice ones inside!!!!:( ........... so this time either i am going to make scrapbooks at home or i will buy some inside DL

We get a new book every time we visit one of the parks..We also add a photo on one side of the page..with the autograph on the other..I used to get the book at the park..but..ebay is SOOO much cheaper..and they are usually the same books as the hotels (or.. Mimi's restaurant) have...
I just type in the character's name of the book I want..then autograph..and a lot come up..some as cheap as under $2.00 ...I got one with a pen before my trip this time (Ariel) and it was $2.75 including shipping..You might have to shop a bit..but..it is worth it..

We ONLY buy the ones with pens. Well worth it!

I think I'm buying different books than brenda1966 b/c I haven't noticed thin pages or problems with them closing.
