Hi everyone - for the "disney regulars", I'm just wondering what age your kids started w/ the autograph books and the pin trading? Our DD will be 2 on this trip and I am wonderng if she would get into either of those things yet - we'd been collecting pins for her since her 1st trip, so she is familar with them - but I thought it was more likely she'd get a kick out of the characters signing a book for her! Anyone have any experiences w/ young ones and these two "disney hobbies"?

Well I think we are in the minority but I just took my friends son to disney over prez day weekend and he wanted NOTHING to do with autographs or characters, he is almost 6 by the way. The only one I got him to go high five were the dinosaurs in Dinoland in AK.

As far as the pins, he was into that because I have been taking him here at home for some time for pin trading at our disney store. S he got the hang of that quick altho I had to be the one to initiate most of the time.

Your dd could be different or she may hate them as well..lol. I have a coworker close friend that is there as we type and her dd (almost 4) LOVES the characters and gets every autograph and picture taken.

I would say its mostly a per child thing, but I think maybe at 2 she might not grasp the whole autopragh thing on her own without your help??? Sorry I dont know if ive been any help....lol

I'd start w/ collecting autographs...make sure she is not scared of the characters. Maybe start w/face characters at CRT or another character meal or the princesses in Toon Town...or have her watch you go for autograph & pics and maybe she'll want to join in. You just never know how they are going to react to characters! She will probably get a kick out of looking at photos of herself when they are all compiled.

I would wait on the pin trading, unless that is something you are into. Definately invest in the pin locks to keep your collection safe....I find the backs come off pretty easy on those pins.

Something else super fun to consider is collecting the pressed pennies. It is fun to search for the machines and different characters and I am sure she will enjoy her Mickey Money...and at 51 cents a pop, it is easier on the pocket book if she loses the coins or loses interest.

Have a great trip.

My kids are 6 and 4 and we haven't done pins yet, but they LOVE autographs. Our first family trip was when they were 4 and 2 and DD4 loved the autographs and DS2 didn't care about them but did love the characters. I imagine your child could go either way- if you're a scrapbooker or want the autograph with the photo in an album, go for it. If YOU don't really care, I'd go ahead and skip the autographs for no other reason than they take so much time to sign and a 2-yr-old could be playing with the character instead.
