With character dining happening my 5 yr old may want to grab autographs...my 9 yr old is too big. Can I pick one up at a Disney store locally or just from the park?
At the parks and online (DisneyStore.com), there are several different sizes and styles. The least expensive is $8 and the most expensive is $20, so it all depends on what kind of book you want. We got my friend's son the least expensive one and it's basically a cover with plain pages inside for the characters to sign. The one with the princesses is bigger and has space for photographs.
We purchased our autograph books at our local Disney store just a week or so back .They're Mickey themed ones and cost $12.00 (Canadian) They've got the photo on one side and page for autograph on the other. We find it easier to purchase before since we often see characters the moment we enter the parks
Amazon also has variety, I believe my daughters was less than $6 with Prime free shipping.
ETA: Nine wouldn't be too old, unless she is just uninterested. I will also say that in hindsight, I wish we had skipped the book. We spent a fair amount of time fumbling with the pen and the book and in the long run I think it would have been better to just be in the moment and enjoy the interaction. One of our best meets was with Sully who can't sign as his hands are way too big.
We're only doing he book for the character dining where there is generally time for it from what I understand. I'm not taking it in the park after that

Seemed to me that time with characters was fairly consistent regardless of location. I have heard that if you book a meal towards the end of service, you will sometimes get some extra interactions.
By far the longest interaction we had was with Peter Pan, who was just wandering around Fantasyland in the early morning. He was great and really took the time to share some moments with my daughter.
I ordered a couple off eBay before one of our trips.
Your 9 year old may want one too. My grandkids have gathered autographs many times when they were older than 9.
