auto clubs?

Is it worth it to join an auto club like AAA just for the purpose of getting the trip maps for one driving trip to WDW or should we just use mapquest? We will be driving from near Chicago next month. We usually fly but can't find any decent airline prices so DH wants to drive. He thinks we can drive to Valdosta, GA and stop there and then continue to WDW the next morning. Any opinions?

AAA-
No, it's not worth it just for the maps or "Trip Tiks". There are plenty of free internet sites to get these from.

That being said it is worth it for peace of mind in case of a flat tire, need a tow, run out of gas, etc. There are also plenty of discounts to be had for a cardmember; including room discounts at WDW hotels.

AAA for maps? No.

AAA for emergency? (Jump starts, towing, etc) Absolutely! Once I had to have my car towed 85 miles, I was not charged a single cent. I cannot imagine how expensive that tow would have been without AAA.

I wouldn't get AAA for the purpose of roadside service or maps. I would recommend contacting your personal insurance and adding roadside service, it will most likely be significantly less then AAA. I pay $10 a year for roadside service, and each incident covers a tow (flatbed for my car) and travel up to 50 miles (rarely you'll need more then that). For maps, use online or invest in a GPS, at least the GPS you can use over and over again and save on some trees.

If you use AAA for their discounts and the other services, then it may be worth it, but note, AAA is not always the cheapest rate, and often you can get rates that are public that are the same or better then AAA.
