Our son Hayden will only eat Banquet Chicken Nuggets, is there a public place in WDW to heat these chicken nuggets, we have our wish trip in 9 days and this has me worried, I hate for him to eat fries only for lunch/supper. We are only doing counter type eating at the parks as our kids are very picky about what they eat and the sit down type places to eat are a waste of $$$ for us. I plan on packing some in a very small cooler thing with the frozen gel pack to keep them from going bad in the heat.

Thanks

I think most of the resorts with a food court have microwaves in the food courts. In the parks I'm afraid you may be out of luck, I don't think the restaraunts can heat food for you(maybe a health dept. thing, or maybe a liability issue) and I can't recall any self serve areas in any park.

This may sound kind of gross, but are you sure he wouldn't eat them cold? My 4.5 year old often takes cold chicken nuggets in his lunch to preschool. They don't heat them for him. He just eats them chilled with no complaints. Not sure if that would be a possibility for your son, or if you 've ever tried it.

We are staying at Give Kids the World Villa, so no we are not at one of the resorts. I think I will have to heat them before we go, you know they are already cooked and he will just have to eat them like that, most likely won't be an issue, but I'm worried just the same.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Not a help on the nuggets but wanted to share that I took my nephew many years ago and all he ate for lunch for a week was popcorn! I figured it was only a week and he was on vacation. It was a great week, he still talks about it and he turned out just fine! (he's 26) Just have a great trip and don't sweat the small things that won't matter in the long run. You know French fries, popcorn at least they are vegetables!

Are there any other protein sources you could have on hand just in case? My kids like Carnation instant breakfast or Rich Chocolate Ovaltine which is easy to carry in a baggy to add to a container of milk to tide them over in between meals. Or Cliff Z-bars. Those are just some of our favorites, but maybe you have others. With picky kids it helps to have some easier to travel with options just in case you can't find a microwave or your nuggets don't stay cold. Kind of like a plan B. Also, maybe you could rent a microwave to keep in your room? I'm not sure if it is allowed where you are staying, but there are places to rent just about anything for your vacation. I don't have any names of rental places, but I'm sure someone here knows.

Could you heat them up in one of the first aid areas in the parks - do they have microwaves in there?

Hayden has autism, so no the other foods are not an option.
We will have a microwave in our villa, but was hoping I could heat them up in the park.
Not sure what is available there ?
Thanks anyways girls....

Not a bad idea, I think the baby care centers have the ability to warm bottles, maybe you could check there.

THere is a microwave in every Baby center I've been in.

You know I just thought of something-you can thank my son who just handed me his lunch box from Friday! He took spaghetti o's in a short thermos that is made for hot food- so what if you got one of those and filled it with hot water to get it hot then dumped and dried and filled it with the hot nuggets you made in the food court micro? I'm sure they would stay hot for many hours, and you could carry it in your bag. Give it a try at home.

DD's school recommends this method, and all lunches are refrigerated once they reach the school. Even while refrigerated if you pre-heat the thermos things will stay warm enough until lunchtime. They've had folks do grilled cheese, fish sticks, quesadillas.. darn near anything. They recommend near-boiling water for about 5 minutes, then dump and add the food. When I've done it any water remnants evaporate faster than I could wipe them up. I do use a metal vacuum-style thermos, not the plastic/foam kind.

I just read in a Parents magazine that a THERMOS will keep chicken nuggets hot for 4 hours! That's pretty good. I'd say just buy a medium sized thermos and put them in there after cooking. It helps to fill the thermos with very hot water for about 5 minutes and then dump it out and dry it before putting the food in. The thermos has to "know" if it needs to keep something hot or cold. :)

Good luck. Otherwise, I'd let him eat nuggets for breakfast or a late dinner and then just let him eat whatever he will IN the parks. Even if that is just fries. Feed him good while you are in the villa, but let stuff slide a bit in the parks.

The baby care centers have microwaves. Also- we use for my son's lunch the Thermos FUntainer. It is really terrific. It is widemouthed as well so he can get the out with minimal help. YOu fill it with hot water, let it sit and then add the food. I pack it at 8 in the am and by noon they are still warm.

You might want to contact Brenda Bennet at WDW to see what other options there are for you. You can find her contact info under a food allergy sticky on the disability board. My son has severe food allergies and we often bring food for him. I've never brought him anything that needed to be heated up though.

there are microwaves in every counter service reasturant, with a seating inside area i know i used most of them to heat up the babies bottles!

most are over in corner by tills, or with napkins etc.

I think the microwaves are only in the resort counter service restaurants, not in any parks.

You will have access to the new "wish room" - not sure the right name but I know the one at AK is located next to first-aide. They have cool drinks and wouldn't be surprised if they also have a microwave there. The baby changing area is a great idea too. Sounds like you will be able to make it work. Have a great trip. I can't hardly wait for our wish trip and it's more than 3 months away.

When my son was on the GFCF diet it was hard when you go out. He can have a hotdog without a bun and fries if he likes hotdogs. I also do not think they will warm up food you bring in at least at many of the places I have been to.

Contact Disney as it may be possible for them to stock the item for you or at least let you eat a meal while he has his nuggets. WDW is known for accomodating special diets and it would not hurt to talk to them to see what option you may have.
