autism, double stroller for heavy child

Hi, I have twins and one of them has autism. they are 6 years old and we are going to Disney World and I am looking for a stroller that will fit both of them, but my one child is about 80 pounds, so we need one that could hold at least 130 pounds. We are looking for something thatHe can "cocoon" himself in if he gets over stimulated at Disney World or the airport and also just so they have a place to rest since it will be alot fo walking at both places. Thanks

Just time for a quick reply.
You are not going to be able to find a double stroller like that. There are some double strollers with a total weight allowance of between 100 and 110 pounds, but neither side can have a child with more than half the weight ( so 50-55 pounds on each side).

Check post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread for places that rent special needs strollers. You will be able to find a single special needs stroller that will hold 80 pounds.

I agree that you will not be able to find a double stroller for that total weight. Trust me, I have looked! We have a Maclaren Major that is an umbrella stroller that goes up to 110 pounds and is very easy to transport but it definately does not allow for cocooning. We also have a Chariot which I am totally in love with. Its difficult to transport but I LOVE it so so much that it is worth it to me. Its like a capsule so it would totally allow for cocooning. If you do not want to take out a second mortgage to buy a stroller and they will be OK walking to the park, I think the double stroller rental from the parks would work but check the weight limits.

The only option not mentioned that I can think of is a stroller connector. You can get them at Amazon I know for sure. It's a latching set that connects 2 strollers together. Obviously pricier to purchase 2 strollers, but it is what it is I suppose.
