The merger of United and Continental will be formal on 1 October 2010.

Given Continental used to fly the route a long time ago and still has a presence in Cairns to service Guam this should be good news. Already there was an announcement that late next year they will fly Auckland to Houston, Texas (Continental's headquarters and major hub, particularly convenient to Orlando and east coast USA). Hopefully this will go ahead along with other expansions, such as a stopover in Hawaii to add a stay at Disney's new resort there without it being so much more.

US rejects Virgin Blue, Delta alliance.

Whilst this is technically an interim decision, reading the commentary I would be shocked if the US government reversed the decision particularly in the current election environment. If confirmed this should mean Delta continue to compete aggressively on price and V Australia will continue to use their own planes which have proved popular on these boards in particular.
