Any aussie DVC members I am looking at purchasing a DVC timeshare :cool1:but i have some questions for you:
I was wondering how often you travel to WDW?
Do you find that DVC works for you?
and How many points did purchase?
any help would be great!

I am not Australian nor have I ever been that far down under! :upsidedow

But I do have a lot of DVC experience and can hopefully help answer some of your questions.

DVC works best for those who require larger accommodations, for longer stays...and who visit Disney World at least every other year. If your length of stay is 2 weeks or longer, then every three years may also work.

The number of points you purchase, would really be dependent on the length of your stays, size of your rooms, time of year and whether you use the bank/borrow rules. Tell me your expected WDW stay and I can easily tell you how many points you would need. I know your seasons are opposite or ours, so this could work to your point requirements.

Being in Australia, you would have access to DVC in Disneyland and Hawaii (when it opens in 2011) to also consider.

I hope this is a start to answering your questions.

Not an Aussie, but I would say that if you provide some more information people like Tomandrobin would be able to provide you some information. He (and many others) has been around for quite a while and can help you put things into perspective to see if it (DVC) is right for you.

Would also recommend that you follow some of the posts by people like T&R, Dean, and bnoble as they're very informed on most timeshare systems.

Good luck, and don't be shy about asking questions,

Chris

On the DISboards OTHER LANDS forum there is a subforum for Australia. If you don't get any Aussie perspectives here on the DVC forum, perhaps you should post there as well. I just saw that another Disneyland is being built in Shanghai (and that might be closer to Australia) but I'm not sure how good the exchange on points will be for there since it will be part of the Disney Collection. Shanghai Disneyland will not be a DVC property so it costs more points to stay there.

Here's the link for the Australia subforum: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=177

There is a good general information on the DVC for beginners at DVC News.com http://www.dvcnews.com/index.php/dvc-program/dvc-for-beginners

Well at the moment its just me and my partner but down he track i would like to take our children to wdw and disneyland at least every second year i dont think i could handle it if it was any longer;)

We definitely would stay two weeks or more at a time.
It takes 16 hours to LA!!

I hope this helps a little more and thank you for your help so far!

Hi we live in Melbourne and we are dvc members. We started off with just 50 pionts in 2007 and are looking to add on when Hawaii opens. We have been to WDW 2 times and are heading back there in January 2010. We stay for 10 to 20 days at a time. If you need any more info let me know.

Scott

Thank you for all your responses that are really helpful I am thinking I might just purchase a small amount of points to start and then add on from there!!

All I can say is it's very addictive. We now have over 500 points and travel to Hawaii quite often. We love our membership.
We are off to WDW on the 13th dec. going on a 4 night night Disney cruise then spending Xmas at WDW before coming home on the 30th.
Are are then going to hawaii at the the start of April for 9nights.

We all love our DVC membership.

That does sound awfully wonderful scotttrippett.

Do you ever do trips with the points to non-disney locations like Europe (minus DLP)?

We are not Aussies but we are UK DVC owners currently living in Brisbane. I have to say I find using my points from Australia hard work as it is challenging to get enough holidays together to make it worth flying 24 hours to Orlando. I ended up renting my 2015 points out as we can't get more than 14 days and the timing didn't work for us to do DVC and 2016 we will do Aulani instead of WDW simply because of the shorter flight.

With banking and borrowing and the possibility to rent points it is perfectly manageable but for us that extra 12 hours flying time means it requires a little more thought.
