Does anybody actually know what the transient occupancy tax will be per point at Auliani? :confused3 The points needed for a stay are high (IMHO) and when there is that tax added on, it could make or break my budget. I told DH that if we go to Hawaii, we are only doing it once, just because of the airfare costs. But we then want to stay like 3 weeks to do it right. We also have Sheraton points and another timeshare we can trade into Hawaii, but that transient tax is problematic in all cases. I just want to get the most bang for my buck and stretch my budget while getting the best value for either my DVC points or other hotels/timeshares. :cool2:

OK thank you! Looking at th chart and calculating per day, we can handle that tax. It's not as much as I thought. :thumbsup2

I'm curious. Why didn't this tax / point get rolled into the dues? Is just so the dues don't look even higher / point for DVC Auliani?

The tax is imposed by State of Hawaii. They want the money directly. It is imposed on every timeshare no matter who operates it. It is always collected at the desk.

As erionm stated, Hawaii's Transient Accommodations Tax is an occupancy tax. The law specifically states that the tax is to be collected from the occupant of the vacation home, not from the owner.

The State of California also has a Transient Occupancy Tax on the books. Difference there is their laws allow it to be billed to the owner rather than the occupant. For that reason, the CA TOT is bundled with annual dues for Grand Californian owners.

As others said, the Hawaii law specifically states that the tax must be paid by the occupant of the room. So the tax cannot be bundled with annual dues and must be collected from each guest visiting the resort.

If you used the points at WDW or any other DVC property, you'd be spending money needlessly if the tax were rolled into dues.
