I'm looking to book Aulani for a family vacation. I can't decide between an ocean view or non-ocean view room. To be completely honest, I'd most like to to at least hear the ocean in the evening...if that's possible.

So for those of you who have been, can you hear the ocean from your room? Does it have to be an ocean view? Any recommendations?

I always enjoy Pool side because it is easier to come and go. never splurged on Ocean View...maybe some day.

Aulani is situated on a very calm lagoon. I'm not sure that you'd really be HEARING WAVES if you went for OV? You'd of course SEE the ocean. But it's not like you're in a beach house perched on the edge of the beach with waves crashing under you. I think if you want to hear waves you'll have to go for a walk....

The difference between the pool view and the ocean view I dont feel is worth not going for the ocean view. We have only done oceanview but are gong to try an island view and im terrified I'm going to hate it but that IS a big enough point difference to matter. If you aren't certain youre returning soon, go all out. The oceanview is incredible. you see all of Aulani, the island above the lobby and the expanse of the ocean. Sunset are a treat.

DH and I love the ocean view at Aulani, but with it you truly get a view of the pools as well. Most of the pool views only have glimpses of the pool area in the Waikolohe Valley anymore since the landscaping has grown. We really feel connected to everything going on by staying in a room off of the Waikolohe Valley where the lazy river and main pool are located. And hearing the live music at night from the 'Olelo Room from our balcony while enjoying a glass of wine is pretty nice too.

I agree with the other post that you will not hear the waves from the ocean at night because they are outside the lagoon area. But is sure is great to sleep with your room's sliding door open and hear the night sounds. But be prepared to hear the morning chant around 7:00 am. I got so that I looked forward to it as sort of an alarm clock.

BTW, the rooms have screen doors that can be locked.

We could hear the ocean waves from our room. I was surprised, because we seemed so far from the lagoon, but we could hear the waves. We often slept with our patio door open, but with our screen closed. Of course, we had a bird that would come and wake us up every morning...he was pretty funny! Once, I left the room without closing the screen door, and when I cam back, he was actually IN our room. Maybe he was yelling at us so we would leave and he could raid the room? Who knows. It was a lovely view, though.
