My wife, son (6), and I will be at Aulani at the end of the month. Does anyone have any offsite restaurant recommendations?

We're thinking about Roy's, because it's close. Does anyone know what the dress code is for it?

Thanks!

There really is no dress code at Roy's. You could theoretically show up in T-shirt and shorts. Having said that, most people did try to dress up a little - I think an aloha shirt / collared shirt and dress shorts would be perfectly fine, anywhere up to long sleeve shirt and slacks.

Here's a previous post I had written with some recommendations for restaurants nearby and not so nearby the Aulani area.

I recommend walking down the beach path to Longboards at the Marriott (the timeshare two lagoons down.) The food is good, the view is great, and the tropical drinks are even tastier than at Aulani. They have live entertainment Friday and Saturday night.

I hear they have a good (and cheaper) buffet restaurant there too. I hear breakfast is pretty cheap, but we didn't check that out.

We also at at the poolside restaurant at the J.W. Marriott (right next to Aulani.) It was just okay, but it was nice to have different choices than the offerings at Aulani. There is a pool with hammerhead sharks swimming around there which the kids enjoyed. They have a restaurant inside too that we didn't check out.

Just another beautiful thing about Hawaii: the dress code. Even the most formal restaurant will have an "aloha wear" dress code. A Hawaiian shirt and Bermuda shorts (or khakis) is always acceptable. For women, I'll usually throw on a sundress and sandals.

Roys is fantastic.

When staying out at Koolina we always eat at Roy's.

The Kapolei Commons shopping area also has several restaurants like Genki Sushi, Outback Steakhouse, Zippy's, etc.

Not entirely true - there ARE formal restaurants in Hawaii that do require long sleeve shirt or jacket and slacks for men (many of the more formal restaurants in the Halekulani hotel are like this) but I agree that the vast majority of restaurants don't have dress codes. :)
