Read on one of these awesome boards to check on rental cars closer to your trip for lower prices. I booked back in January for later this month and paid $420 for 9 days. Today it's $200 cheaper! Sweet! Now I wonder if anyone has an opinion as to which facility is the easiest to rent from, or closest, etc. TIA!!

Aloha DisneyFourMe,

Have you checked the rates at www.discounthawaiicarrental.com ? And also if you're a Costco member, be sure to go into their costcotravel.com site and check rental rates there. When traveling to Hawaii it always pays to snag the best rate you can as far out as you can ( I book mine almost a year out!) and then keep checking, checking. I almost always end up saving money. Yay! More fun $$ to spend elsewhere!

All of HNL's car rental companies are off airport property, though just a very short shuttle ride away for all the major companies, which I would definitely stick with. If you are asking about which company to rent from to pick up at Aulani, that company will be Alamo.

Same here. We go later this month and I did my first rental reservation in December. a couple of weeks ago the rates began to drop so I'd make a new reservation then check a day or two later. This last week they began changing every day, but as of Wednesday the rates are going back up. But my last reservation was 64% less than my first one.

I did a googlemaps search of the different airport rental agencies and realized there wasn't much difference as far as shuttle distance was concerned. As of now, I'm planning to get the car and then return to get DW and DD with the luggage. I hate dealing with luggage when picking up a rental car.

I did the same thing. Started out with $409 for 11 days and ended up with $256 and an upgrade. We arrived on Wednesday and Enterprise was actually in the terminal. We took a shuttle for our Alamo rental. It wasn't far but baggage is slow. Everyone is clearly on "island time". Once at Alamo it was in and out of there in under 10 minutes even though it was packed.

When I first booked our car, I chose Enterprise because it was in the terminal and only $22 more than Alamo. Now the difference is closer to $100 so I staying with Alamo unless I see a really good deal come along before we leave.

Since the plan is that I will go get the car while DW and DD get the luggage, then I will return to the airport and pick them up. I've been to the Honolulu airport many times so it won't be a problem finding my way back. On our return, I'll drop them off with the luggage and then return. That way we don't have to hassle with them.

Went with Alamo via Costco for 8 days. Just like most say, Alamo through Costco was still the best deal for us ($212 fees already included) standard car. I think that Hertz is the rental car company next door at the Marriott.

One of the reasons I went with Costco is that they waived the additional driver fee. So price includes 2 drivers.

We made our reservation with Alamo six months ago, but when we arrived after taking the shuttle form the airport, Alamo wanted $100 extra to let both me and my wife be authorized drivers on one of the cars versus just the name of who made the original reservation. This was never mentioned by AMEX when they made the reservation for us.

Also, if you reserve a grand villa and really expect to have 10-12 people being moved around the island for various excursions/etc....ugh, the rental car expenses are extreme to carry both a high number of passengers + luggage..I think we paid $850 for 8 days...however, having a car is basically mandatory to do any serious sightseeing.
