Hi,

We're going to Aulani 5/25-31 so a few of those days will be over Memorial Day Weekend. Does anyone have advice on how busy the resort will be during a holiday?

Should we spend time exploring the island during the weekend or during the week? I want to spend days at the resort when they'll be less crowded so we can enjoy the pools more.

What do you think?

I'm not sure what effect the holiday will have over the resort as it's so new but we plan on breaking up our trip in April by hanging at the resort on day one.

On day two we are going to Pearl Harbor early and then for lunch at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville at the Beachcomber.

Day three is hanging around Aulani and then in the evening we are walking to Paradise Cove for the Luau.

Day four is the North Shore drive.

Day five is enjoying Aulani.... you get the hint. We'll alternate our days for the rest of our trip.

I don't know what is right or wrong, but that's how we plan to do it.

Good luck with your planning. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the advice about breaking up the days!! Great idea!

We will also be at Aulani over the holiday weekend, and while I am not overly concerned about the crowds at the resort, the one thing we did agree on was not to try to visit Pearl Harbor that weekend. We have been before, so we can afford to miss it this trip.

Weekends at the resort are generally a lot more crowded than weekday since a lot of locals like to go use their points there. When we've gone for Sat-Mon trips we're always pleased by how much 'emptier' the resort feels on Mondays.

Keep in mind that thanks to our new governor's version of furloughs the Hawaii Department of Education (ie. all public schools in Hawaii), will be ending the school year on May 24. Expect heavy traffic that weekend in particular. Unfortunately, that means at the non-resort tourist destinations as well, as many locals like to play tourist when we have the free time to do so ...

In general foot traffic increases during the weekends, especially during a three day weekend. Just make sure you make reservations at the restaurants whenever you can. The pools are only for Aulani room guests, so a busy weekend should not affect the pools or poolside seating.
