Aulani Question-Chances I Fix My Mistake?

Hi, folks! Hoping for some opinions on a problem I created at Aulani for myself. We have a multi-day stay coming up in June at Aulani. I couldn't get us one room for the entire time period so I had some options wait listed with the hopes to consolidate the number of room changes.

I've also been searching inventory on a daily basis and about a month ago was lucky enough to snag two days in the same room type. Yay!

Like a dummy, I canceled the wrong reservation after I booked the 2-day rental and am now stuck with a 1-day gap in the middle of our stay. I tried to grab the room back a minute later as soon as I realized what I did, but it was already gone. I have wait lists going and I check multiple times a day for inventory but literally nothing has popped up.

For folks with Aulani experience, any opinions on the chances a random room pops up? We're approaching the 30-day window for check-in soon and I don't have a wonderful backup plan. I do have a backup plan, but I'm not wild about it.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Have you at least called MS to see if they have that night for cash that you can book? At least you'd have something?

I don’t have any great suggestions, but I can say, I’ve definitely done the same thing a time or two in my life…. It seems to be getting more frequent now as I get older… and I guess not so much wiser.

Hope it works out for you!

Hahahaha. I travel for a living and I'd say once every year or two I book an airline ticket for the wrong date. Thankfully, I catch it before getting to the airport most of the time (but certainly not all of the time).

Oh no. June is notoriously tough to book at Aulani, and cash stays are crazy expensive since Covid. I’ve been trying to add days to my July stay without any luck. What is your backup plan? I would stay in Waikiki or the North Shore for a few nights and then head back to Aulani. There are a few hotels in Kapolei (10 minutes away) that are clean and moderately priced, you could sightsee and drive around the island on those days.

Thanks for the context. I have rooms booked at Hyatt Regency Waikiki on points (I'm a points and miles nerd). It's nowhere near the end of the world to switch hotels for one day, but would be nice to stay the entire time at Aulani. We're in HNL for 4 nights and then flying to Kauai.

The Hyatt Regency is in a great location in Waikiki! I can definitely understand why you’re looking for more nights at Aulani though, our stays always seem to short too. I would check DVC multiple times per day and hope something else pops up!

So frustrating :( Could you also look to see if anyone has a confirmed reservation for your dates? Other than stalking the site daily I am not sure what else could be done at Aulani. But another idea is to book a hotel in Kapolei or Ko Olina so it's not too far - if you really had to check out for one day, you could actually use Aulani all day on your check out day, then come back the next day to check in and you'd still get to use it for all of check-in day too.

Yeah, I'd love the kids to be able to enjoy 4 days straight there! Thanks for the advice on Hyatt location!

I've been keeping an eye on the rental forum for confirmed reservations. You also gave me a good reminder on being able to use the facilities all day. So, maybe we're just sleeping somewhere else for a night. :D

My family has said they want a slower pace on this vacation, so I'm really not sure how much exploring we'll do. It may just be 4 lazy days at Aulani, which isn't so bad. :D

Plus, if they can hold your luggage for one night at Bell Services (do they do that?), that would be good too. Just one small carry-on for your family to the next hotel :D

We always stay at the Hyatt for a couple of days. Of course it helps that my sister worked there for close to 40 years, and helps us get a room. 😄

It is in a great location - just up the street is Kapahulu Ave with some of the best local places to go - Leonard’s Bakery, Waiola Shave Ice, Fresh Catch and Ono Seafood for poke, Haili’s, Rainbow Drive In,and Side Street Inn for local food…. Yum!

Also, Da Ono Hawaiian Food is right on Kapahulu and about a block away from Ono Seafood. Might be my favorite place for local food in HI.

Have you checked all the broker sites to see if they have a confirmed reservation for the night you are missing? Also post on some of the FB rental groups, you never know if someone might have something.

Something like this happened to me last year. I was unable to book the last two days in my room category when staying on property with family. I decided to book those two days at the Marriott vacation club in Koolina on vrbo and it worked out just fine. We walked to Aulani to spend time with family.

One other option would be to book some seedy. 1-star property for the gap day. Imagine how thrilled everyone would be to go back to Aulani the next day! Guaranteed appreciation for the Aulani stay! 🤣

I remember my first trip to Bali. I had a couple of nights planned towards the end of my trip at a hotel closer to the airport. When I checked in, the room was a nightmare. Torn bedcovers, dirt in the shower (not dirty, actual dirt!), and too much more.

I have never been so happy to double my spend and swap hotels (Hard Rock Bali).

Hope the OP has found a solution that works.

I've been meaning to pop on here and say to keep looking and refreshing. It may be very rare, but we had the exact 2 nights we needed before a cruise last year come available just 5 days before our arrival. Good luck!
