Has anyone who is cdn, even better Ontario in case there are differences by province, bought Aulani Resale, what was the process? Any extra steps, extra costs? Thanks

No help, but I'm jealous. Let us know if there were extra steps or costs, in case some other Ontarians want to buy one day!

So far the closing quoted is a bit higher which I can live with a few hundred extra closing. My biggest concern is any extra work or costs when it comes to signing. I think I had read a long time ago that someone had to go to the us consulate for notorization or something similar which is not something I want to get into.

When we talked to a DVC specialist, they told us as a Canadian buying in Hawaii is more complicated. Still do able, but youll have extra legal costs as they have a longer process. As mentioned above, I believe it has to do with getting a notorization and going to the consulate.

I’m from AB but bought Aulani. It was several years ago but I do remember the process taking longer then quoted times for closing on other DVC resorts. The closing fees are higher because of additional Hawaii mandated fees. DH and I both had to go to the US consulate to get docs notarized and they charge for this.

Personally, being a DVC owner and also having been to Aulani twice, I would never consider buying at Aulani. Its generally easy enough to get what I want at 7 months during the times when I would go, and to me while its great Oahu is so small that you can see and do most of what you want to do quite easily in a short period of time. I wouldn't really consider it a great place to go to just sit around the resort because while the resort is nice the jet lag is a killer. Also unless you get a subsidized dues contract the dues are a bit higher than many properties and I would guess that likely resale might be tougher than it would be for a WDW contract although that is just a hunch. We are looking at a third visit to Aulani but I can honestly say I am torn on that because we have basically seen and done it all over the first two visits, and if we didn't have DVC (which makes the room price way way cheaper than if paying cash) I would certainly not return and would try another island instead. I own at SSR and if I had to do it all over again, knowing what I know now, I would have bought at Bay Lake Tower when I bought my contract instead (due to cheaper dues, longer expiry, at the time the price wasn't that far off value wise (when comparing both via resale at the time we bought 6 years ago) from SSR and I might actually want to stay there, we have never stayed at SSR)

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am not buying at aulani because I want to go there all the time. I am buying it for stay anywhere points. I have run the numbers and the deal I have ($70 a point) makes it cheaper than any other option even with higher dues. Any of the other properties can't even come close to this deal, plus I know it won't be taken unlike the 3 BLT and one AKV contract I have had taken over the last 2 months.

Just remember, at that price, it still has to get by ROFR. But seeing that they are still selling there, there is a good chance of passing. Good |Luck

My understanding is that they have never bought back an Aulani contract which is part of the reason I started looking at contracts there. I know its possible but am expecting it to pass because they always have.

$70 a point is cheap, not sure what the normal Aulani price is or the likelihood of it going through ROFR but if you plan on going to Disneyworld I would really be inclined to buy at Disneyworld with the enormous number of excess points that are going to be in the system as a result of decreased pandemic travel. I would assume for the next few years it may be tough to get the room you want at the resort you want once travel opens back up again unless you can book prior to 7 months. It was already hard before but with so many banked points coming into the system plus pent up travel demand its going to be nuts

Normal price for aulani is more in the $90 to $100 range I believe. It's also the perfect amount of points for us 150 to go with our 75 at OKW direct. We mostly will be looking for 1 BDRM and 2 bedroom so I don't think it will be that tough for us. Honestly I am not sure how often we would be booking before 7 months anyway. We will be happy with the giant 1bdrm at OKW, getting a 2bdrm at AKV, etc. I don't know whether we will use any of the points anyway. Likely to bank them till next year when we don't need to worry about them expiring if things stay bad in the 2nd half of the year. So many things up in the air so we will have to see what happens in the Disney world this year. First step is to actually get the contract through ROFR.
