Aulani Points Requirements

going to keep looking, but um, where is the chart for aulani?

Wow. Has anyone checked out the points requirements for Aulani yet? Very very rich indeed. They are obviously targeting people for a short 2-3 day stay as their weekly points rates are outrageous even in the cheapest season.

I'm very happy at AKL thank you very much!!!!

I too own at AKV and I could not agree more with you. Even after I went to the event here at DL I still did not want to buy. As nice as the resort looks like it is going to be I can't see myself going there once every three years. I usually do studios and Aulani is badicly trading two of my nights at AKV for one there. No thanks. I will not get into re GCV discussion as I live just 30 min. north of DL and will never stay there.

Aulani is only cheaper than VGC if you are going to use a lot of points (Travel Magic or Premiere seasons) or stare at the parking lot (Not ocean view).

We usually take our major vacations in the summer months so the charts are always higher for when we travel. So I WAS comparing like seasons when I said VGC is WAAAAAY higher. I especially like that Aulani is the same # of points across the board. When we plan our trip we will definitely have to plan to try to hit VGC on a Sun-Thurs. The weekend points there are nothing outside of extortion!! A studio in July or August at VGC on a weekend Fri-Sat night is 40 freaking points!! An Aulani OCEAN VIEW is only 29 points!!! That's not even CLOSE!! Sun-Thurs will run us 23 points at VGC. Now if we can't get IN then we'll check out staying at PP or Disneyland Hotel or something. Not an ideal situation for 38-53 pts per night for a DL hotel! MIGHT just end up paying cash.

Also, we NEVER book the highest view anywhere. We find that while that would be NICE we just don't spend any down time in our rooms to warrant the extra points. I have had "island views" & "pool views" in Hawaii that rival looking out at nothing but ocean. We would most like book either of those.

I would like to spend a week at Aulani and will bank/borrow to get there with all of my kids/family. But for us it will probably be a once in 5 or 10 year trip. :)

May have overlooked the obvious, but just noticed that the Aulani points for 2011 have all 7 days of the week being worth exactly the same ie not less points to stay Sun-Thurs as I'm pretty sure all other DVC resorts are.

Wonder why? Hope this isn't setting a precedent for the future.

(And I apologise in advance if this has been discussed elsewhere)

We share DW and DL with all the kids and they love it, as do we!
We think we will keep Aulani all to ourselves so we can go every year.;)

Wait..so HAWAII is CHEAPER than VGC? Cheapest week in a studio is 129, a 1BR 253 and a 2br 342 (whee..point cheaper). Wow..VGC holds the record for charging prremium points I see...it must be because most people don't stay a week at a time at VGC and they certainly will at Aulani.
My dream would be for a DCL ship to travel to Hawaii, stay a bit and then come back. Getting to Hawaii and not liking to fly don't work so well together.
...and did I read that Aulani would have some sort of Hawaii state tax of $9-14 a night?

I was told the tax is 2-18 depending on the room size and season you are staying. This is a hawaii tax not dvc as they stated over and over again.

I never stay in the view rooms. I spend so little time in the room it's not worth it. IMHO

I like that it's the same. It certainly makes planning easier. Before I bought I pulled my daughters school calendar ( i work there too so it makes it easy) and I found several time when I can do a long weekend 5 day stay in many of the non premium time periods.

personally...I've been waiting for dvc hawaii. My annual thanksgiving trip usually costs me 1500-2k just for hotel/car rental/food. Airfare can vary. I look forward to not having to pay for hotel and being able to go to the store and cook. Going out to meals is nice once in a while but every day for 7 days is harsh. I will miss the "free" coffee the hotels offer in the morning.

i wouldn't worry about it. hawaii is a completely different situation than orlando or anaheim. on the mainland, you have a lot of locals visit on the weekends - so point costs are higher to discourage weekend-only stays. hawaii stays tend to be longer than a couple of days...i don't expect it to set a precedent.

We weren't married on Maui, but spent our honeymoon there in summer 2001! We are not going in 2012, but hopefully in one of the years to follow.

DW and I were talking the exact same vaca plan the other night. 4-5 nights Aulani and 4-5 nights Maui would be ideal. If we're going back to Hawaii then we're doing it right.

We'll be banking points in 2011 in the hopes of staying there in 2012. DH and I were married on Maui in 2001, so we are putting off our 10 year trip for DVC. I hope we can book at 7 months. Using 2 years worth of point for Hawaii is totally and completely worth it to us. We would like to spend 5 nights at Aulani and 5 nights on Maui. Not flying 12 hours for a 7 day vacation ever again. :dance3:
