Wow. Has anyone checked out the points requirements for Aulani yet? Very very rich indeed. They are obviously targeting people for a short 2-3 day stay as their weekly points rates are outrageous even in the cheapest season.

I'm very happy at AKL thank you very much!!!!

Really?

We're going to stay in a 1BR in September 2011 when it opens, 322 points if we wanted a week in an Ocean View (not sure that will happen with only phase 1 open).

1 BR MK view at BLT would be 288 during the "cheap season".

Other posters have stated (over in the mouscellaneous threads) that compared to other timeshares, they are actually a bit lower. I don't own any other timeshares, so I'm not sure.

GrazingGoat-anything compared to AKV looks expensive. AKV is the best deal around and coincidentally, my favorite resort! :woohoo:

It is Hawa'ii!

We'll stick with our AKV (so totally our fave!!!) and splurge elsewhere (see also BLT) every now and then.

Agreed Brancaneve, but when the cheapest week in a studio at Aulani is 126 points, the cheapest 1 bed is 252 and the cheapest 2 bed is 343.....I mean WOW.
Coming from Australia, Hawaii is closer and way more convenient for me, but at those number of points, I'm personally happy travelling further to Florida and getting a much longer holiday for my "buck".

I guess you don't plan on staying at BLT or VGC. In many cases those points are even higher than Aulani.

Cheapest BLT studio is 102 pts, Cheapest 1 bed BLT is 194, cheapest 2 bed BLT is 273.....mere babes in the woods compared to Aulani!

Whilst I take on board the similarities between VGC and Aulani (cheapest VGC studio 3 pts more than Aulani, Cheapest 1 bed at VGC is 17 points cheaper and cheapest 2 bed 1 point cheaper at VGC), the thing that surprises me is that at least at VGC you have 2 theme parks and Downtown Disney all within walking distance which would allow you to easily fill 3-4 days. Aulani is all on it's Pat Malone and they are charging an absolute motza for the privilege.

After 2 to 3 visits to Hawaii without any added off-property Disney "stimulation" I wonder how many might get bored that's all. I'm sure there are a multitude of punters who are more than happy with their Hawaii purchase, and more power to them. But the reason I chose Disney when Timeshare purchasing, was the "add-on" attractions that Marriott, Wyndham etc couldn't offer, and I'm just curious as to why people would buy the most expensive DVC property (points wise) without other Disney attractions nearby.

I don't think Aulani is that bad myself....but then I own at VGC. ;)

:rotfl: Yes - a couple of weeks ago while staying at VGC I was told that Aulani would be cheaper. I didn't ask "than what?" but now I know - cheaper than VGC!

Cheapest BLT studio is 102 pts, Cheapest 1 bed BLT is 194, cheapest 2 bed BLT is 273.....mere babes in the woods compared to Aulani!

Looking beyond the cheapest season you'll see that the least expensive rooms mix back and forth between BLT and Aulani in other seasons. In most cases the 2BR's at Aulani are less expensive. In most cases the 1BR's at Aulani are more expensive than BLT and the studios are more heavily weighted towards Aulani but not in all seasons. That's looking at full weeks stays since Aulani doesn't have a higher premium for weekends.

But I do agree - it's expensive!

It costs a lot more to stay in an oceanside resort in Hawaii than it does to stay in California or Florida (even at some on property at Disney.) So it makes sense the point requirements would be high. And who needs more Disney entertinment? (Did I really say that?) When you have the amazing ocean, sunsets, and all of Hawaii surrounding you! Have the people complaining actually been there?

Personally I'm trying to convince my DH to buy cheap resale Vero points to use in Hawaii. If it becomes impossible to book without home points, at that point we'll buy a different timeshare in Hawaii--maybe Marriott. I'd rather own one where we can stay on different islands. Oahu is not my favorite, but worth a visit now and then. IMO!

Wait..so HAWAII is CHEAPER than VGC? Cheapest week in a studio is 129, a 1BR 253 and a 2br 342 (whee..point cheaper). Wow..VGC holds the record for charging prremium points I see...it must be because most people don't stay a week at a time at VGC and they certainly will at Aulani.
My dream would be for a DCL ship to travel to Hawaii, stay a bit and then come back. Getting to Hawaii and not liking to fly don't work so well together.
...and did I read that Aulani would have some sort of Hawaii state tax of $9-14 a night?

I don't mind. It's going to be a splurge trip for us instead of a budget trip to WDW. I don't plan on going there often. But I also only planning on getting a standard view studio.

I felt the same way when I looked at the point charts last night! :scared1:
If we go all the way to Hawaii, we'll want to stay more than a couple of nights, but at those point per night costs, we'd blow our whole allotment in less than 4 nights. My heart kind of sank when I saw that.
I feel like DVC is hoping for a lot of wealthy asian visitors buying in, not so much your typical WDW annual guest.
With BLT, VGC, and now Aulani all having this high points per night thing - I hope this is not the future of every new DVC!

I was really psyched to see that it was a lot LESS than VGC! We want to stay at VGC either on the WAY to Aulani or on the way home & those nights are going to cost us WAAAY more than our time at Aulani. When I first looked at the chart I was YEAH! We can stay in a larger unit...then I looked at the VGC chart and was put back in my place (a studio).:lmao: The combo stay will be really steep but it's not Aulani's fault.

Aulani is only cheaper than VGC if you are going to use a lot of points (Travel Magic or Premiere seasons) or stare at the parking lot (Not ocean view).

We'll be banking points in 2011 in the hopes of staying there in 2012. DH and I were married on Maui in 2001, so we are putting off our 10 year trip for DVC. I hope we can book at 7 months. Using 2 years worth of point for Hawaii is totally and completely worth it to us. We would like to spend 5 nights at Aulani and 5 nights on Maui. Not flying 12 hours for a 7 day vacation ever again. :dance3:

Maybe the DVC is hoping you will break up your trip and stay a few nights in Hawaii at Aulani to help with jet lag.

I know what you are say. Our plans are to fly to LA stay a few nights at VGC, then fly to Oahu and stay a 3 or 4 nights at Aulani and then move to another island for 3 or 4 nights. If Aulani's points were just a little lower maybe we would revised our schedule and stay there, but multiple nights really add up. And since we'll be reserving at the 7 month mark the SV villas probably won't be available as Aulani owners will grab the cheapest points up during their home resort advantage period.

I can see that your pattern of traveling every 10 years will be common with DVC members that do not own at Aulani. When we check the airfare we are always blown away. We can fly to Europe for a lot less not to mention to the Caribbean.

Unfortunately Denlo, coming from Australia and making a stop in Hawaii en route to LAX is, cost wise, prohibitive. The extra cost that the airlines charge for the stop is (well) in excess of the LAX to Orlando flight.
So, for our family, it looks like WDW will continue to get our business......What a shame!!!
