After two years away, we (me, dh, ds, and dd) are coming back home to the US for a visit in June 2014. We are flying home to Seattle and want to hit Disneyland and Aulani while we are in the states, but the more I run the numbers, we can only afford one. :(

If we go to Disneyland we want to try to get into the VGC. I've only walked through the Grand Californian, never stayed there as a hotel guest or in the villas. We haven't seen the new Carsland, not to mention I'd give anything for a dole whip!

Our home resort is Aulani. We purchased there before it opened, not expecting that we would end up moving to Japan. We haven't visited our home resort yet and everything I hear about Aulani sounds fantastic. My kids would love the lazy river!

Gah, its so hard to decide. Which would you choose?

Book Aulani at 11 months and try for VGC at 7. If VGC comes through, vacation there and then you can take it off your bucket list.

Well I guess for me it would depend on how much of a hankering I have for being back in the parks!!

Aulani is amazing and to be loved for different reasons than a Disney Park vacation. If you need your Disneyland fix then I would do DLR. But if you are wanting something more relaxing then Aulani it is!

I totally agree with Disneynutz on the booking strategy. Aulani in June is hard to get, so definitely use your home resort 11 month booking advantage and get your reservation in at Aulani asap. Then at 7 months just see if the VGC is available... if it's not... well then, your decision has been made for you!!

Choose Aulani! Just returning from there and to fill the Dole whip void, you can get it by visiting the Dole Plantation on Oahu
